its gotta be a LX.. and around 3500 range... so i can tear it apart and build the ever living dog shit out of it.. so heres my questions.. 331 N/A 347 N/A or 302 with Vortec or paxton.. built t-5 or C-4 with 3500-4000 stall an shift kit how big of back tire can fit without a BFH? whats best sounding exhaust on 5.0? And whats the tuning options on the 5.0s? its gonna be a weekend warrior/2x a month street car... justa fun bad ass car. thanks!! i am a modular guy.. i just wanna 5.0 |

youll love em bro. I miss my 89 sooo much.
i would go with either the 331or the 347. When I built my 89 I had put a 331 in there with components from Coast High performance. As far as exhaust you are gonna get mixed opinions on this one but I went with Mac LT's, Prochamber, then dumps and man let me tell you it was rediculous loud. I dont know exactly the largest size that you can fit on there but im thinkng 10.5" but ill be corrected if im wrong. Pushrods are alot easier to build then a modular, trust me as far as tuning I just went with a chip and had it dynotuned.

Well I think it depends on if the engine needs rebuilding, if so then I'd go with the 347 for sure, but if you do a compression/leak down and your good to go then throw a v-1 s trim on there and call it a day. Don't do a T-5 or C4, get a Tremec tranny, their much stronger than a T-5 and much more drivable than a C4 I think I've had a 255 under there with no issues, but any bigger and you're probably going to need to manipulate the inner fender-well a little bit, so I'd just man up and do something like a 275 or 315 (size varies on manufacturer). 225 is stock fyi. Exhaust is mostly preference but I've come to like Magnaflow and Spintech....Sometime SLP if I'm in the mood Tuning can be done with a wideband, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, timing, and track time (and a spark plug reader but I'm not too familiar with it) or you can find a GOOD tuner to give you a good base line to tweak from. Hope that insight is helpful

yeah forgot about the tranny thing. definetly upgrade and get something better. have you done your research on it yet, like block HP expectancy and all that? If you do get one and need some parts ive got stuff laying around that might come in handy from my old fox just sitting in my shed. Ive got a bare block w/caps, stock manifolds, heads, a couple of cams, and other little things here and there so if you need anything just let me know.

Stock blocks are USUALLY safe until around 450(ish) whp anything after that then I think it's hit or miss (crack block) depending upon what year you get it could come with hyper pistons (I'm pretty sure only 93s) so prior to that they are forged. Pre 89 I think also has speed density instead of mass air, and in 91 they removed the tilt steering wheel, made it bigger and added an air bag, so if I were to pick I would get and 89 for the MAF, tilt column, and smaller wheel. And in most places 20 years is historic = no emissions.

I thought it was just the rods that were forged and not the pistons, cant remember its been a couple of years. Also 89's come with the A9L computer.

How much you planning on spending on this thing and how many hours do you have to work on it. Everybody always has this huge list of parts they want to put in a fox like 347,s-trim, tko600. This shit takes lots of time and lots of money.

ok look you can fit 275's under the car with out wheel spacers and it lowered on eibach pro's and as for the trans im going with a t56 for mine cause if i want to i can daily drive my car and get awsome gas mileage. if you want exhaust id go with either bbk or mac l/ts, o/r h or x which one you like more is your preference, the cat back is up to you also because i like the sound of l/t's mac prochamber and flows myself i think i gives it that muscle sound but not to loud just a awsome deep tone without the raspyness.
