Buying a stang

Hey everyone i was just wondering if you could give me some tips on buying a fox, im kinda in the market now and i have been looking on craiglist alot the past month. I have seen alot of foxes on and for seamingly reasonable prices but im just not sure what some major things to look for are. I was wondering what reasonable prices are for fair foxes ( runing not totally trashed decent paint and int) Also i was wondering what your thoughts where on buying a 4cyl converted to a 5.0 i found one pretty cheap but im not sure if its good to buy or what some areas i should ask about the car.

any little hints or help would be appreciated thanks

After you search and you got any additional questions about a particular car, post the craislist link and let us see it and we will give our thoughts.

Well body wise you want to check for rust on the underside of the doors, hatch/trunk lid and wheel well's.
If the car isn't a real 5L car but rather a 4 cyclinder swap then it's not worth much no matter how much work is done to it unless you don't plan on getting any money out of it if you have to resell.

Check the torque boxes (where the upper and lower control arms bolt to the body) this area is prone to damage if the car is ran hard or with sticky tires with launches. This area depending on how bad it is will cost you some money to repair. Most people part the car out if it's bad enough just so your aware.

Drive train wise just like every other car.. check fluids color and smell. Get the car up to operating temp and let it idle for a while why you look over everything so if there's any over heating issues or any leaks they'll show there head.
A good amount of smoke or air pressure pushing out the oil fill cap at operating temps normally means blowby.

Make sure the trans shifts good with out any grinding during quick shifts.. if it grinds it'll need synchros which means a rebuild for the most part.

That's about all I can think of right now off the top of my head at work... good luck
