302 shortblock
my stang is my only car so i cant pull the engine and have work done to my block...i wish i could though....since i cant do that, i figured i would just get a vortech kit and install that....but then i decided that if i am going to do it, then i want to do it the right way so that when it is all done, i will be happy with it. I am not looking for a certain amount of power. I just want to build a reliable engine that i can drive every day and that runs good...of course i want it to be fast, but i also dont need 500 horsepower... i dont know if i should buy a used shortblock and have the machine work done to it, or to just buy a new shortblock and put a topend kit and a 5-6 psi blower... i really dont know what to do....it's just back and forth here... i am trying to do this using as little money as possible but i dont want junk...any suggestions would be great...
o and i also thought about just putting a topend kit and a 5-6 psi blower on the block that is in my car now...i was just worried about if the bottom end would hold up or not... |

A stock 5 liter bottom end will hold 500hp safely and often times more than that.

Where do you live? i am in the process of having a 331 dart based motor built and am selling my current block, its all ready to go for you,
it has about 300 miles, stock block boerd to a 306, hawks racing crank and rods, clevite h-series bearings, speed pro fogred pistons, .030, balanced, dss main support system, dss 7qt oil pan, arp main and rod bolts, arp head studs, and o-ringed deck. this setup with 12psi of boost made close to 500hp at wheels on pump gas, good tune, with ported stock heads.

would a S/C do much on a stock motor?? i was told by a guy at a mustang performance shop that my motor could only handle 5 psi safely...and that seems like a waste of money to me cuz that wouldnt give me much power...

well 500 hps on a stock bottom end is possible but will not last because stock rod bolts will begin to stretch...I run 15psi on a 302 block
and no way your seeing 500 hp on stock heads*L*
