Yeah, move to a carb'd setup and get rid of that damn computer. All I need is a flathead, phillipshead and a rachet set and that's it. Kidding :wink

When I had my focus and ran into something just as similar, I just cleaned everything. I also cleaned the oxygen sensors too so you can try that as well.

It may be worth your time to check the sensor on the MAF to make sure there is nothing on the the actual sensor tips. Very carefully clean of with a Q-tip if need be.

Have you checked the EGR valve, the sensor that goes on the EGR valve, vaccum leaks, etc. I had a similar problem and ended up buying all new gaskets for the EGR, IAC, Thorttle body and egr spacer and nothing helped then checked for vaccum leakes and had one hose cracked under the front side of the plenum and that didn't help either, then replaced the EGR valve and the sensor and cleaned the IAC and the MAF sensor and pluged the battery back up and it ran fine after all that. Hope this helps I know it's frustrating.

So it just does it when you first start it up? Mine when I first start it up it idles around 1400 then 10-15 seconds it drops down to about 900. Is your start up idle really high?

Mine too!. I have read that with an AOD tranny/computer ex.(A9P) will tend to idle higher on start-up. Mine (when cold) will tend to shoot up to 2500 and then slowly down to about 1100. When it is warm it is alot less, anyone with an AOD or A9P computer have the same issue?

it goes up and down from around 1200 to 500 back to 1200 down to 500,levels out after 30 seconds or so, gradually gets better as it gets to 30 secs, then sits where it should at 850 ,900

ok so i re set and checked everything, iac, tbs, egr and sensor, pcv, maf, cleaned and checked all harness connections, cleaned throttlebody, intake, complete tune up,massive vacum leak test, made different gaskets with restrictions for the iac, no codes, pretty much everything i could do and still has a surge when started without giving it gas ? and when i stp in traffic, runs awsome otherwise is it too much to ask for, damn ford

knskit. I have the answer to your problem, I'm not sure what to call the part, but I have a small plate that mounts between the IAC and he throttle body that has 2 air screws in the sides that aloows more air to flow into the intake through the IAC. It allows adjustment to idle surge problems when you are running a cam/heads/intake etc. I'll get some pics up ASAP....

When i was running naturally aspirated with a stock ecu, I had IDENTICAL surge problems as you, I got this little gadget, and it helped 200%. Here are some pics of it. I bought it off EBAY for about 20 bones. It has a part# on it, and I'll give it to you, but I have NO IDEA who makes it, or where it came from.
