Gears


I have a 95 gt with a 5.0 manual tranny 5 speed and i whant to gt some grears for it i was thinking 3.75's but im not relly sure what to get i need some help with this. thanks

if you plan to stay n/a go with 4:10's

if you plan boost 3:73. (no such thing as 3:75's)

Just the rear end gears and a speedo gear. I'd suggest 3.73's for a daily driver, 4.10's if you see a fair amount of track time (or don't mind revving 3500rpm on the highway).

GO WITH 4.10 BECAUSE YOU MIGHT NOT EVEN NOTICE THE CHANGE IF YOU HAVE FACTORY 3.55 GEARS. I HAD 3.90S IN MY DAILY DRIVER AND
IT WAS DEFINITELY A GOOD CHANGE. IF YOU HAVE AN ELECTRONIC SPEEDO YOU COULD GET 3.90S AND A CORRECT SPEEDO

for my 90' fox would 4:10 gears be to much of a headache if i drive on the highway? im looking for a practical street car i know i would be safe with 3.73 but since im n/a pretty much stock i kno performance wise im better off with a set of 4:10's

The guy that convinced me to go 4:30s is at about 2700 RPMs at 70 mph with 4:30s. That is why i am getting them. I do not know what rpm you are running with 4:10s at 70 mph but it is less than 2700. That isnt too bad, especially for a young kid like me. But if you really don't like the sound or drone, then go 4:10s.

I have a Tremec 3550 in my car with 3.73 gears and at 70mph in 5th gear I am just at around 2950-3000 rpm's

Like you said B4 Tony you have an auto and I dont know what the difference would be rpm wise compared to my Tremec.. Anyone?

If one car has an auto and one has a manual same rear 3.73 gears what would be the rpm difference at say 70 mph?

I have an idea. The Feb 2007 issue of MM&FF did a C-4 vs. Tremec 3550. In the article they do a gear comparo chart. Also, are you wanting a terminal velocity above, say, 140MPH? 3.73's are gonna limit you to about that. At least, that is what my ex has in hers. 02 GT with a 5spd, but still the same gearing.

I have 4.10's in my v6 auto and turn about 2800 at 70 mph

OK HERE GOES: Tremec is listed first; 1st: 3.27, 2nd: 1.97, 3rd: 1.34, 4th: 1.00. They don't do a 5th gear ratio, but I can presume that is a 1:1 ratio.
C-4: 1st: 2.46, 2nd: 1.46, 3rd: 1.00. There is a whole page dedicated to what exactly is being done, but I don't really wanna type it all in. I can do the formula, but I will need more values to give you a number.

if you plan on driving this car more than tracking it, just stick with the 3:73s..... I have 4:10s in my 69 with a tremec, and it is a little much for the street, the car is far far away from stock though. Even my 86 has 3:73's and I am contemplating switching to 3:55s

Yeah with the twins the 3.55's are prob the way to go for your car.

The first 3 gears are pretty much useless when you get into any amount of boost.... it sounds fu**in cool as hell when the tires snap loose and the you hear the wastegates close, and the blow off valve open when i let off, sounds like someone unhooked a compressed air line from an air tool.....
