88 5.0 sometimes starts but won't stay running

my buddies 88 gt 5.0 starts sometimes but it won't stay running without being on the gas. when we keep starting it several times it stops starting all together until it sits for about a day. We just replaced the fuel pump and now when the key is turned to the on position with the engine off the fuel pump will prime itself if we move the distributor to adjust the timing. the battery also does not hold a charge, its has a new battery and alternator.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as we having been working on this car for a while with no luck

Might not have good fuel pressure. Maybe the regulator on the back of the fuel rail is bad. Its a good idea to have a adjustable regulator and pressure gauge anyway...

sry guys this car is an 89 so it is a mass air flow car if that changes anything

we replaced the TFI module and adjusted the timing and now it works

Now it's a good time to get you a new Holley Blue pump. Mine is an 88 GT and the EFI pump went out about a year ago, right before the carb setup.

i unplugged my iac one time and forgot to plug it back, it started one time and then it died, if i stayed on the gas it was fine, but when i released bamm down she went and never started again, well atleast till i plugged it back up lol.. Worth a shot
