How many RPM do you shift at on average? Whats not beating?

This might be a corny question but...

I dont know what gears my car has stock or if that makes a difference. I also know hills, highway etc change this. I averagely shift at 2,000-3,000 rpms in town driving.

Does gears make a difference if so what would you shift at if you had the same gears as me?

If you were on a straight away highway what RPM would you keep your car at for a 200 mile non stop trip?

In town normal driving what do you shift at?

What is the max RPM I can shift at when I want to make noise without straining or lowering the life of my motor or beating the car.

I was told to shift higher then 3000 or it will strain my motor?

Just asking because once my exhaust is on im sure I will be reving higher then normal :-)

I'm no geniues, but I shift around town at about 2500-3000 RPM. But, as for what you shift at it depends on any mods. Gear= no clue i don't have a higher gear ............but, highway I don't really pay attention cuz with the 3:08 in the rear I know I can ride 80 and still be under 3k I believe.

shit, with my stock gears I can be a little over 80 and be right at 2K.

When i had a manual, i shifted anywhere from 2500-5000. 5000 of course being when i was getting on it some. When i was trying to save gas it was at about 2500. I would say it isnt hurting the engine unless you are bogging it all the time. and beating it would be shifting at the redline every shift.

X 2 on that one stangzilla..... even on my crotch-rocket, if I'm easy on it, I shift @ 3-3.5K, so, prety much the same, from bike to car, even to my truck which shifts the same as my mustang........ rpm's anyways....when I'm "beating" on the bike, I shift @ 17K

As for the mustang though.... the god-honest truth I have yet to shift at anything over 4500 rpm around TOWN, because in the first 3 gears, the tires give way at around 3500 rpm under boost

For MPG - ~2k around town. On the highway it's ~1.8k at 60mph and will be ~2k if I get an 8.8" 3.55 axle. That'll be ~2.4k at 70mph for the freeway. Soo... I'll just go about the speed limit / traffic speed.

For spirited driving I try to keep it below 4.5k.

OMG!! WTF?!? Listen to your car and shift wherever you want to. High RPM generally makes more power, but kills MPG. A lower RPM will boost MPG, but Power will taper. We see a pattern here? Not bein a smartass, but listen to your car. It will tell u what it wants.

Although he sounds like a smartass hes right.!!! I too shift by ear thats why I estimated 2500 RPM. But, I do drive by ear (Too lazy to look down & thats the way I was taught to drive).

Since I always have my radio off, and my car is really f'ing loud, and I love the sound of a good old blown V8, I usually run her up to 3500-4000 per gear in town.

Just a for what it's worth - the gears in your diff don't mean jack squat as to what rpm your gonna shift at, just what speed that will be. Shifting at 2K is shifting at 2K whether you have 2.73s or 4.88s.

The only difference you might see is that with the lower gears you can shift a little bit lower without bogging the motor.
