msd wiring

so on this 83 mustang i bought it has a 6a msd ignition already installed, what i dont like is that the power wire is ran off the battery to a toggle switch, me and my brother tried to find something that wasnt hot with the key off and get hot and stay hot while starting the car, nothing we can find does that everything cuts off while starting, anyone have this problem before??? i plan on ditching the radio and installing the panel with the rocker switchs if i cant find one, thanks for any input

There is a wire coming out of the ignition key switch that is hot when cranking and when the key is forward. I don't know the color but its there. Everyone does it this way. Get your test light out and keep searching. I've also found wires under the hood by the wiper motor harness that will work too.

I think that the fat red wire for the MSD is supposed to be hooked up to the battery.... mine is hooked up that way.... just get rid of the toggle switch if you don't want it.

if i run the red wire to the battery then without that toggle the car wont shut off, i turn the key back but it still runs so i have to flip the toggle to kill the juice to the ignition

There is a thick red and a small red. The thick red goes directly to the battery and the thin read needs power only when the key is turned forward.
