That's totally dependent on the engine and how it's built. Stock 460s don't make a whole lot of power relative to their displacement, but you can build the holy crap out of them. It's not like the motor's gonna magically change hp spec 'cause you put it in a Mustang (that's a joke, I'm not being a hardass )

I believe that those motors put out somewhere between 250 and 300hp in stock trim, so that's what you're gonna make. Now build that thing up with some Super Cobra Jet heads, matching intake, good exhaust, and you'll be hitting 500hp pretty quickly. Go for a blower or a turbo, and there's no reason you shouldn't be able to pull 800 - 900 hp. Dump a lot of time and money, and you can hit 1000hp.

it depends on what year and type of 460 you have. we used to have a 1972 Lincoln Continental and it had 360 horsepower and a shit ton of torque stock, i'm pretty sure it was 430 lb/ft of torque.. i know it was in the owners manual but we sold it so i dont know. you might think thats a lot but that car was a huge giant boat so it wasn't very fast.. now put that in an older mustang and you'll be doing wheelies. anyways it was a 460 factory 4 barrel. in 1973 the 460's were only putting out 2** hp.. get a pre '73 460 for dirt cheap and you wont have to do much to it besides headers intake carb and if you wanna get crazy and build the whole engine you will make a lot of power.

a 460 is a great motor, it can be made n/a t o make well over 750 hp to the wheels, but its huge, the thing is that like what was said from a certain year up they were dog motors. u can build em for cheap and get an easy 550 wheel. but the cam choice is not as hard as it looks, depending on what heads u get u might wanna get a cam that matches them.

What year is it? Earlier (pre 80s) were pretty stout blocks. You can make big power with a 460 but be prepared to spend alot of money. You could go as fast if not faster for less money with a 351W based stroker. What parts to buy depends on how much power you want to make.

That is stretching the truth a bit........

would i have to get a different trans if i tried to put a 460 in a 97 gt? i know that is probably a newb question but no one has ever answered my question about that before. like. what motors will bold up to what trans. i think all ford motors should bolt up to all ford trans. im pretty sure its not like that but that would be nice

Not all Ford motors bolt up to all Ford transmissions. Far from it. You will need a C6 transmission and a big hammer to make it fit in the trans tunnel.

If you can fabricate then you have no limits. Rick (Twist 2 Go) Has a 9 seconds notchback on here with a 460 in it. He might be able to give you a little bit of advice. Like Darrel said, be prepared to spend money on parts depending on how much you want to beef it up.

460s fit in Rangers just as easy (if not easier) as they fit in Mustangs. I built one a few years ago. The major issue is modifing the blower motor box to fit around the valve cover. Other than that there is all kinds of room.

Have fun with that. Those 7.5 are very nice engines. shouldnt cost you too terribly bad. Get yourself a c6 transmission. Very strong.
