5.0 idle problem.

I was wondering if you all could help me with my 5.0. This problem just popped up and just kept on getting worse now the car will not idle without turning off....when i try and hold the rpms it hesitates and sounds like crap.
The car also smells like unburned gas. any idea what this could be? I have done nothing new to the car.

check your fuel pressure your pump might be going bad

Sounds like that could be it....I just changed the fuel filter with no luck.

mine was doing that for the longest time and it turned out that it was the distributor, not just the cap, but the entire thing. I replaced it with a new stock one and it idles like a champ now. I think it was about $200, make sure you get the timing right tho if you replace it yourself
