that was my plan as well. i haven't had to worry too much about it yet since most of the pieces were pretty big (radiator, battery, fan, etc) but i will definitely need to do that in the very near future. my next pieces coming off will start to have a number of bolts (brackets, valve covers, intakes, etc) so i'll definitely need to pay close attention to how they are installed and how they come off. it's definitely going to be a learning experience. my digital camera will be getting a workout as well to help document how it's all supposed to go together.

i actually have a full set of shop manuels (4 or 5 books in the set). i'll have to dig them up though, i haven't had to use them in a long time. guess it's time to dust them off.

i had another suggestion, and that was to look into reman'd motors. any suggestions on those. i have not looked into what it will cost to put mine back together with machine work and new parts, but there is a place that has reman'd short/long blocks and it looks like i could pick up one of those for about 800 (short)-1500 (long). i've also heard autozone had a similar program. i realize these are stock engines but i'm sure they will still accept the "standard" bolt-ons. i'm told engines direct even has a nice warranty with there stuff. i've briefly looked at their stuff but have not contacted them directly yet. what's some input on this approach? it would definitely cut down on the time issue. seems like a pretty good idea since i'm not trying to build a bowtie killer.

got a bit more done last night. took off the spark plug wires, power steering pump, and the bracket that holds the pump in place. dumb thing is that i took the bracket off FIRST, not realizing that the pump is completely held on by the bracket! so i take the last bolt out of the bracket and i'm left holding the power steering pump in my hand that is still connected to the hoses. i'm going to use the excuse of bad lighting
so how do i unplug the damn alternator? i was trying to take the thing off and couldn't get it unplugged?????? Last edited by under construction : November 4th, 2009 at 12:30 PM. |

here's where i'm at so far.....
still going back and forth on what direction to go with the block. not sure if any of you read the article MM&FF about the 347 buildup. but they tested a fresh 347 and put the stock heads, cam and i believe and aftermarket intake on the motor. i'm seriously considering going this route because this would be the perfect time to stroke the motor but i'm not wanting to buck up and head and cam swap just yet. will running a 347 with the stock heads and cam actually hurt the motor in any way? i completely understand i'm losing TONS of power by running stock components. think i'll do the exhaust manifolds next and then tackle the intakes.
