Woah so I just bolt on a X-pipe and unskrew the caps and I'm running strait exhaust?
What about emissions? Can I put my current exhaust behind this X pipe? Last edited by McMustang5.0; November 3rd, 2009 at 09:06 PM. |

he was being sarcastic with that post.
ALSO there are TONS of guys who will talk to you about setups, what works, what doesn't. go to the track and talk to some people. let them know you're clueless and want to learn. until then do some searching, take some initiative to learn, don't just post demanding you get answers when an easy search will provide you with those answers. |

tunnel rams are good for high rpm's but you cant over carb it 2 300's or 350's should be plenty, but can get a much better running motor with a single carb set up

I was kidding man, that item on ebay is a total piece of shit. An x pipe with no cats help but nothing like what they say. That whole ad has to be false.
Listen to the others here, you have too much carb. your parts maybe be good but there mis-matched. |

Also, IMO don't be so worried about the reaction time... infact when i first started out I would wait for the other car to leave or just wait until I was ready to launch the car. obviously not wating at the tree for minutes, but you get the idea...

Alright so I was thinking of nice $400 edelbrock intake manafold, put the sig erson cam in and only use one of my 600's? Hows that sound?
Fijistudios: I put new netami renegade racing seats in and pulled out the spair/jack/lug wrench and......my next pass will be without my girl in the passanger seat. |

Wasn't that you that posted up your Dad's old pinto in the Other Cars section? Any reason you're not asking him for guidance?

You can look at where you want your powerband will be, and that should tell you what parts to use. It doesn't make ANY sense to use a cam that doesn't "come on" until 6500 rpm if your heads dictate an upper limit of 5500, and it doesn't make any sense to chase 9500 rpm if your budget doesn't allow you to custom fab parts made out of unobtanium. My opinion is you shouldn't change any part unless you know WHY the new part is better than the old part, and how it will affect everything else. I guess what I'm saying is that I appreciate that you're asking, but you're asking the wrong questions. You're asking for fish, we're trying to teach you *how*, not just hand you a delicious bass.

Engine Displacement in cubic inches * max rpm / 3456 = CFM (assuming 100% volumetric efficiency) So, if you have stock displacement, and are turning relatively stock rpm, it might look like this: 302*5500/3456 = 480.6 However, you'll never get 100% VE, so you get the next bigger size. That gives you a 500 cfm carb as being "right" for that displacement and rpm. The *stock* carb on the '83-'85 5.0 HO was a 600 cfm Holley 4180. So, for the curious, you can plug that back into the formula to figure out what you can spin a 302 to with the stock carb: 302*X/3456 = 600 302X = 600*3456 X = 600*3456/302 = 6866, but again, no 100% VE, so we'll round that down to 6500. So, really, unless you're pushing better than 6500 rpm, the stock carb is NOT the power restriction, so if you want to make more power on a stock motor, you'll want to look elsewhere first.

i wouldn't just go up to someone and say hey, how can i make my car fast??? might want to just talk to them about their set ups, and what they run. dont do this at a car meet, go to the track and talk to the faster guys. not the 8 & 9 second guys, just talk to the 11 - 12- 13 second guys... |
