Help Leaking Coolant
Today while removing my sway bar I noticed some liquid under the car. it wasnt oil come to fid out its coolant. I shined a blue light towards the water pump (Blue LED's make Coolant Glow green) I can see coolant coming out from the water pump seal. Not a whole lot just a small amount.
Now my question is should i replace the entire water pump or do you thing it is just the seal that has gone bad? |

how many miles are on the pump? if you have the cash it might be a good time for a new pump and gasket.
Also, check the thermostat housing just to be sure the coolant is flowing down from somewhere above rather than where you see it.

I have have no clue how many miles Just recently bought it engine has been rebuilt but dont know about the water pump doubt he replaced that. I just figured id find out if i could just replace the gasket. But pumps are not that expensive so i guess i could go that route.

Also about the thermostat housing i did see some coolant up around the hose leading to the heater core just above the water pump i checked it the clamp is tight so i dont know if coolant can still leak threw or what probaly be better off just replacing all the hoses, water pump gasket and thermostat gasket?

Its best to change the waterpump along with the gaskets but if your lucky you won't have a bolt that is stuck and you have to bust the timing cover to get it out so you would have to replace that to and you have to get a new timing cover gasket. I had to do that and it was a pain in the ass but I still had to replace the timing cover.

You can buy just this one or they sell a bunch of gaskets in a set depending on what you're replacing.

id say if you dont know the miles on the water pump. better be safe than sorry. since the water pumps off. spend the extra 30-40 bucks and throw a water pump on there. you dont wanta just put a gasket on there than 1 week later the bearings start to go and or start weeping out the weep hole. than that new gasket was a waste.. thats my 2 cents..
