Blown Head Gasket

hey guys, my car hasnt been running well since i replaced the radiator, well since then I've had some cooling problems, like coming close to overheating after a 10 min drive, so i went to my local mechanic and he said there was emissions gas in my coolant, so that means i have a blown head gasket. If i was to get that fixed, because i dont have the correct tools or time to do it myself it would be a big job and my motor already has 100k on it. so heres the question, is it better to try to fix the head gasket and stay with my motor or buy a new crate? if you think i should go with a crate what should i get and will i need anything else with the set-up, thanks

Mechanic who said that =

Before you burn money on them, please answer these/...

1. When you drive, does your car have white smoke out the pipes majorly?
2. Does your car act like it wants to stall when at a light or puttering when on the gas?

3. Does your thermostat fluxuat? <-- GOes up and down LOL I can't spell that for crap!.

If you say yes to 1 and 2 then it could be a matter of a gasket yes. But if you say no to 1 & 2 but say yes to number 3 then you should try a new thremostat from Summit racing. Don't get that BS crap from autozone, I try to avoid them as much as possible unless I need a pulley taken off my alternator.

Do those steps if you have't already and if they didn't ask that first. Punch em in his lip and say "that's all youll get from me!!! I'm taking my money somewhere else" Hell even I learned that before getting a car period.

No i understand, but heres the weird thing I replaced the thermostat first, still overheating within 10 mins...the car runs fine and strong, no white smoke which was my first clue, and no antifreeze in the oil. SO i figured what the hell....no way its blown, then I called my regular performace shop and he said if they did find emissions gas in the coolant then it def is a blown head gasket...this is gonna be one huge freakin job and i dont think I'm gonna have the money to pull myself out of this one.

dude all you need is a ratchet set, a Haynes Mustang manual and a trickflow gasket kit. Just make sure you take the bolts out of the heads in the correct order and put them back in the correct order also, and use a torque wrench at the recommended torque. Don't waste your money at a mechanic, do it yourself for under $100 bucks. Oh yea, i'm pretty sure you can remove the two heads and the intake all in one piece. When i had my first mustang i got ripped off $800 for head gaskets....hell no never again.

When head gaskets start to go they do not always cause white smoke to come out the exhaust. Sometimes there is just enough pressure to cause exhaust gasses to enter the cooling system. Thats why there is a test to check for gasses in your cooling system.

The lower intake and head bolts are different. Remove the intake first then the heads...

yeah, tear it all down dude peice by peice, i just tore down my upper intake, replaced the valve cover gaskets and reinstalled, no biggie.. My engine was rebuilt with 2k miles on it before i got it so i am ok right now on the head gasket.. Dude u can do it... Believe me, just rember to watch where everthing goes and torq the heads to specs... also torq the intake stuff to specs too.. ANd i didn't even have a manual lol... easy man. easy.. If I am not mistaken u have to take off the rockers and then pull the push rods label them just so the ones that came from that hole goes back to that hole.. This may not be crucial but i would do it.. also when pulling the headers use tons of penetrating oil. which reminds me. let it set as long as it takes to break them free without breaking them.. This is costly..
