loose ring gear

so over the weekend i replaced the axels in my 95 b/c one was out of wack..when i pulled the differential housing, i noticed that NONE of bolts that hold the ring gear to whatever the hell it is that it bolts to (about 9 bolts) were tight, and 3 of them were backed off so far that it only had about 1/16" clearance...f-ing amazing that it hasnt locked up on me...

What could have caused this. could the vibration from the bent axel i had cause the bolts to back out? anyone ever have this problem?
