19lb inj /24lb maf /A3M ecu WTF?


i was checking some things on a mustang gt i just purchased and i found that it has

oh yeah its a 93 gt 5spd

orange 19lb injectors
1993 cobra 24lb maf (F1SF-12B579-AA)
A3M ecu which is calibrated for 19lb injectors

what is this gonna cause being mismatched?

mods i found are
initial timing at 16 degrees
still has 60mm tb and egr plate
explorer upper and lower intake manifold
air silencer removed (paper air filter)
act sensor relocated to intake tube
underdrive pullies
shorty headers
h-pipe (no cats)
flowmasters with turndowns

i want more power out of the car im just not sure what to do next
do i need to do something about the mismatched injectors,maf,ecu combo

what is the next step for more power BBK cai ?

well i searched on google and found that a 94-95 gt airflow meter works best as a stock o.e. ford part upgrade i found one at the local pull-a-part and plan to grind the flange off of it

and the cobra meter that is on it now will make it run lean or so ive read

if i remember right the cobra maf is fine with 19s, its the cobra computer calibrated for 24s. Might be your timing is too advanced

The Cheaper way out is to grab a stock maf tho correct?

How many times does it have to be said on the forums that the MAF from the factory (ie. factory cobra 93 maf) is not calibrated to 24lbs. The maf signal is the same. The difference is the 93 cobra computer - calibrated to 24lb injectors.

nope. Usually makes it run richer in most cases.

The only way to tell if a cobra maf will work with an a9l, and 19# injectors is to flow test the meter with corresponding voltage numbers then convert the flow number to kg/hr, and see if the meters numbers match up with the transfer function table in the a9l.

Or put it on, and check the a/f through various driving conditions.

thanks SUPERBEAN so i should be ok with the setup i have then right

ill prob turn timing down to 14 tonight

my thinking is that i have the larger maf,cai,explorer intake and free flowing exhaust i prob will look at a accufab 65mm tb and egr plate (i noticed opening on intake manifold is larger than tb to do this) or just get an explorer tb and modify the throttle linkage
the tb looks to be the next restriction in the system (except for heads and internals)

i understand

i did alot of searching and reading and found that most people are using the 94/95 gt 5.0 maf because its a 70mm and uses the a9l ecu and 19lb injectors so its a better match for the foxbody

after i get 65mm tb and 94/95 gt maf and bbk cai installed i plan on having it dynoed and tuned to make sure the a/f is proper for engine to be safe

That could still be an unknown tho. if you can compare the transfer function values between the two and they match it should work..

all 3 transfer functions are different , will it run? , yes , will it run the best? , not without chipping it and putting the correct transfer function into the chip tune

spot on.

IF your setup doesn't MAX out the STOCK maf, then it's best just to run the oem maf as it's the correct one for that setup.

However, if your building a wicked 302 or stroker, aftermarket will be needed.

The sn95 5.0 meter (70mm) is a nice upgrade if u find one at the yard (20-30 bucks). Mine ran decent with one (306, gt40p, performer, exhaust, tfs1)
