Transmissions

I need a transmission recommendation for my project. It is a 302 with ported and polished gt40p heads and ported and polished explorer intake. It also has a mild lunati cam, cold air intake, 70mm throttle body, mass air, mac headers, bbk hi flow catted hpipe, and dynomax catback exhaust. I also will be running a 100-150 shot of nitrous.

I am pulling the engine out of my 91 vert and putting it into my 92 4 cyl hatch. The vert has a auto now (I believe C4), but I want a manual. I have an 87 5.0 5 speed hatch I can pull parts from and I have an extra T5. Will the T5 be strong enough, or should I go with something else? The car will be mainly driven on the street with an occasional pass on the strip. If I use one of the T5s I have, I would like to rebuilt it before I put it in. Any recommendations on parts/upgrades while I have it open? As far as budget, I would like to keep it under $1000 but if spending a little more would get me alot better setup, I am open to it.

Thanks

As soon as you really start beating on it, you'll probably break the T-5. It's torque rating is only 300~ lbs. I'm running a Tremec 3550 in my car, beast on it quite often, and I've had no problems.

id kept it a C4 honestly. if you do anything else to it, it will be quicker and more consistant with the auto. missing gears while spraying isnt cool either. when I do my H/C/I i will be ditching my tremec for a trans brake'd c4. but if you must have a 5 speed get a TKO.

+1, I've seen a few local guys explode G-force transmissions last year with mild 347s on street tires.

You're joking right? T5 and strong don't belong in the same sentence. A T5 is a grenade.

Would someone mind please posting the places to buy these things? I don't know where to look, yet everyone keeps talking about this and that. I'm all new to Mustangs over here.

What are you on? Way too many people post bullshit information on this website and dont know what they are talking about because they have no experience with it and not just trying to single you out either. Don't try to post "facts" on here if you have no experience with them. You will end up leading someone in the wrong direction. Automatic all the way. A TKO will be strong but not bullet proof compared to some of the automatics and you will hate the way it shifts. You will be a lot safer with an automatic.

www.jegs.com

They sell some transmissions. I am not that experienced with this topic but i do know one thing...Google is your friend. I typed in C4 tranny and found alot of places to buy. You can find just about anything you want in a MM&FF magazine in the parts diestributors section. Check it out man.

Would ya'll suggest this rebuild kit for a stock tranny? I need the car in good working order right now. I'll worry about a high hp tranny later when the turbo goes on.

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...48120_-1_10561

Wondering what's needed to rebuild one and how hard it is. Maybe an estimated cost if it needs to be rebuilt? Thanks.

I have a 88 5.0 with a rebuilt t5 and I have never had a problem with it however in my 89 i have a c4 its all pretty much stock but i have also never had a problem with it eiher, so its kinda all about what you want and how you have it built, its all on what you want granted the t5 is not a good transmission stock but rebuilt with the right parts can be a good transmission to have.

You can get a kit from G-Force to rebuild the T5 and they claim that it will handle some big power numbers but I've seen a few of them fail real quick.
