Requirements for installation of new ring and pinion gears?

I called a reputable shop here localy in SC and I was told a new set of 3.55 Motorsports gears would be $228, and the bearing (Entire installation kit) $125 and if he has to rebuild the trans lok, the clutch kit was $90, and the actual installation would be $125. He said if iI wanted I colud by all the parts and he would install for $125. Does this sound about right? and could there be any money saved by buying the parts myself? What manufacturer or dealer would you recommend for purchasing these items?

Thanks for your time and input!

why only go with 3:55's?
you don't always need a bearing kit when you do the gears but it is recommended.

i would buy the parts yourself though. people tend to mark up prices from what them pay for them

i would have to recommend FRPP gears

Labor sounds right, but the parts are a little off. Usualy a shop will add a mark-up on parts"just for good measure". I'd buy the parts myself if I were you. gear $180, good install kit $130, speedo gear $25, trac lok reauild 50$. If you have the shop buy all the parts they might just use old bearings and shims and stuff, and charge you for the install kit anyway. My buddy ownns a shop and pulls that shit all the time, then brags about it.

I guess the reason I chose the 3.55 was because on a long ride like to the beach (4-5hrs) I was told that a 3.73 and a 4.10 would be a little high, and the car really isn't going to see the strip that much. I just want an all around good gear for highway and weekend trips. What do you recomend?

3:73s tbh.
you will still get plenty of good highway miles and you will have a good jump off the line if needed.

i drove from CA to NJ with 3:73's in my car and it wasn't bad at all.
