EEC IV problems
I have an 89' notchback 5.0, 5 speed that has the dreaded CEL. I bought a code scanner, but can't get it to connect to the eec. When I grounded the single wire, the computer wouldn't start the self diagnostic mode. Is the eec fried?

I think you could try the self-test with a digital voltmeter and see if that works?

plug it in, with the engine off. then start the car. With the car running, switch the scanner on to test, you should hear a quick blip in the engine, then it should climb to 2000k and stay there. If for some reason it can't raise the idle, it will abort the test. Mabe try and check your IAC

The eec won't go into the self diagnostic mode at all. If the scanner is plugged into the port, still no connection to the eec, and the car stops running a few seconds later.
