Hatch Struts

Hey guys, apparently my hatch struts are blown, and I was thinking of getting new ones. Only problem is when I open the hatch, it feels so unbelieveably heavy that I dont even think the struts would hold it up. My maxima has the same struts for the hood, and to be honest the have a problem holding that up. Could something be wrong with my hatch to make it feel that heavy?

Yeah, it's called you having to finally having to manually push the hatch up. Seriously, you were so used to unlocking it and it goes all by itself with a tap of a finger. Well now, you have to do it all yourself so it tends to feel heavy.

New struts for that will fix your problem for the next 11 12 years

Yes, it could be covered in lead bars.

No, for serious, you could change the struts or you could fix them. One of my relatives had a Fox that wouldn't hold the hatch up anymore. So being the mechanic that he was, he took a rectangular bit of metal with a hole off center, slipped it over the smaller end of the strut and used it to prop the hood open. Think of a screen or glass door - that little brace you slide forward to the base of the gas cylinder to stop the door from closing? Just make that for you strut. You only need to put it on one side.

Budget Stanging FTW!!

ok he said trunk not hood. But worked the same way. He also said how to fix it, not how to ghetto his mustang.

Replace the struts man, cost only 50 bucks or maybe cheaper,

It works. It's not ghetto, I didn't say it was chrome plated.

Chrome wheels, stick on chrome 'pin stripe' down the side of the car, chrome lettering, chrome wheels (it's worth mentioning twice), chrome grills, chrome exhaust tips, chrome wheels (still worth mentioning).

Chrome = teh ghetto. Drive around the southside of my town.

Yeah, like old Monte Carlos and Cutlasses that sit higher than a Hummer.

Anyways, back on topic. Yeah, uh, fix those struts!
