5.0 drag car

My buddy and i are looking into getting a 90-92 mustang gt. We want to turn it into a drag car and we have a basic plan of where we want to go with it. is 600+ horsepower an unreasonable goal for this car? The reason i ask is that this will be my first project car and i am not the best mechanic but i want to learn.

1200hp is a reasonable goal it all depends on what you are gonna do like stock block or power adder.

okay..we are going to start off with everything stock..and as we get up higher and need better parts we will make the necessary upgrades....we were thinking s/c,intercooler,headers,exhaust,pulleys to start off with before we needed serious adjustments..hopefully that will put us at 425hp..but still not sure what else we will do, as our budget is not the biggest

im not sure, but from what ive read on other threads, i dont think 425 hp is reachable with that list, and as ive been told many a time, go for a HCI setup first as a base

why not start with suspension and get that started first, better to have a slow motor and hook up then have a fast motor and spin all the time, but again its going to be a used car u buy, so first u need to go over the entire car and see where u have problems and fix those first

You're not playing Need For Speed Underground, you can't start off in a bracket race with a stock car and think you're gonna win. Start out with a whole other engine or get a much stronger block and order some forged lower end parts, snag a turbo setup and that will at LEAST give you a change for the blown or Forced Induction Class.

Although I'd be willing to help, I still have to say whiteboycustom is right, that's how I learned. After hearing so much BS about "many" parts, you'll learn that the shit goes together and it's really only a few parts to really put together an engine. The millions of bolts and screws is what;s "many" LOL

So that "whiteboy" is correct. What up "whiteboy"! LOL i'm messin around

HCI = heads, cam, and intake....in other words, a good top end kit. The whole kit can run about $2300 from summit if you go with Trick Flow.

there are many more brands. Holley, edelbrock, cobra, gt40...all of them.....but about 90% on this site will say go with Trick flow because they are very reputable and have all their kinks worked out...and it is a good bang for the buck.

find a car and start from the ground, i bought mine about a month ago and i have put it on the road 2 times, im not in a big hurry the car is not going anywhere, i want it to be complete on the road instead of half ass on the road, and as far as engine i think it comes down to personal preferance, people say something is good because they have it and like it but really cant say something about brand x because they have never owned it and just maybe brand x is a better addition to ur build, ive put $1000+ dollars in my car in a month and im only going to be putting out more so be ready to have ur wallet ready

How fast do you want to go and how much money do you have to spend?
