Heads? A/C delete? Smog Pump
So, for christmas I'm buying myself some new heads. I found some E7's ($100), Newer stock ones ($50), GT-40's ($150) and some GT-40P's($200).
I would like to get the set I buy rebuilt, ported & polished. Which one's would give me the most gain (over my stock heads) for the least amount of $$$? Which could I run nitrous threw without a big BOOM! Also, I want to get rid of my A/C, can I Just remove it and get a shorter belt? Also my smog pump is disconnected from the tubes and stuff but the belts still wrapped around it, can I just remove that and get a shorter belt? Or will I have to fab a pully for both because the clearance between the HB and other pullys? Thanks |

Shorter belt, and get the gt40/gt40p heads, e7 heads are garbage. Not sure which would be better between the gt40 and gt40p's tho.

gt40p's flow slightly more... but only certain headers fit them good
![]() completely remove your smog shit and your ac shit, you don't need any delete pulleys just measure and pickup a new serp belt. one thing though, on the back of your heads are a port for smog.. you need to bolt those two holes off with a bolt when completely deleting the smog pump and stock catted h pipe fyi Last edited by flyin ryan; December 15th, 2009 at 12:55 AM. |

Gt40's are your best choice. But in my opinion you should put the money away and try to find a deal on used heads. Trick flow's, AFR's, canfields, ETC
My ported E7's will be for sale very soon. When I bought a battery I just went to advanced auto and got the one with the highest cold amp's rating, cost me $90. I think it has 1,000 cold cranking amps.

If you want a good battery get an optima they are the best. Stay away from e7's I don't care how much they say they are ported, shit I dont care if they were solid gold. Saving like someone else mentioned for a set of used trickflows is not a bad idea.

Is there much difference in the gt40's and the 40p's? I have never ran the p's. Had a 92 lx with gt40 heads and intakes and a b cam that ran pretty good.

what I am asking snatchy is do you know the differenc in HP? Is it a big difference or are you talking 3-5 HP (I can get one of those turbonator air filters that will give me 120HP to make up the difference if so)

Out of the box the GT-40P's flow better, burn fuel more efficiently, and have a smaller combustion chamber (higher compression), than the GT-40 Irons. The GT-40 Irons you'll usually find have a better valvetrain capable of taking cams with lifts somewhat higher than .500 whereas the GT-40P head stock valvetrain should not be used with cams having a lift over .500 unless you like valvespring bind (which you don't). There should be no debate still out there on which head is superior. The GT-40P is by far the better head, no ifs, ands or buts.
