93 v8 swap no fuel pump power
Okay, I have searched this out and done tons of diagnostics to try to find the problem. I hope that I don't forget anything.
To start I had an 88 V8 lx automatic donor car and I have put that engine in a 93 lx that had a 2.3 auto in it. I have put a gauge cluster from a 93 v8 in the car, an A9L ECU, a wire harness from a late 92 mass air V8 car. Both cars ran prior to the switch. I took the fuel pump out of the 88 and put it in the 93 tank. I have all of the hard parts switched over to the 93 and I am trying to get the engine fired back up. My problem is that I do not have power to the fuel pump. I have checked everything that the "fuel pump wont turn on..." thread suggested and I still have had no luck. I do not have a wire for a relay under the driver seat. Also the color of the wires on my car are different than what I have been reading on all of these posts. I hope that someone on here has done this swap and can help me. Thank you for your time |

Most likely something is missing or not wired quite right. Rarely can you do a 4cyl. to 8 EEC harness swap with 100% compatibility on the connectors. First thing to do is find the EEC and fuel pump relays and we can go from there. You can find copies of Ford EVTM's on fordfuelinjection.com I believe which should help out.

Check under the hood near the MAF wiring, is there 2 relays there? If so then one of them is the FP relay. I have a 93 GT harness in my 93 Notch and that is where they are.
I can get pics for you tomorrow....

I only have 1 relay under the MAF. I am pretty sure that it is the fuel pump relay even though the wire colors are not the same as the diagrams.

What colors do you have on that relay. If the hardshell is black, it might be the WOT AC cutout relay.

The part number on the relay is 14B194-DC If that is the case then where do I find my fuel pump relay? Could there be just a set of wires buried under the driver seat? Last edited by 93mustanglx; December 16th, 2009 at 05:09 PM. |

I would say that's the AC relay and likely has a black hardshell. The pump relay should be close by probably has a green hardshell and will have a pink/black, red, light blue/orange and dark green/yellow wires. The EEC relay probably at the PCM and may have a brown hardshell.

that sounds like the problem... you're gonna have to add a relay for the fuel pump... the 93 is outside and the 88 is inside... go to Ford Fuel Injection and check out the swap section... lemme know if you need help wiring a fp relay...

didnt each year have minor changes in the harness after like 89. I for some reason keep thinkin that you gotta be careful when swapping harness's after a certain year due to minor differences

Would you walk me through how to add a relay. I think that I could do it but would really appreciate it if you already know then I won't burn my car down.(I hope) (I wont blame you if I do) I have another wire harness with a relay in it and I am planning to cut it out of the harness so I don't have to go buy a bunch of stuff. |

Yea there are some differences but if you are changing the ECU and wire harness the biggest deal is to make sure you have the correct connectors on the driver side. I called Ford racing and they helped me get the correct ECU but didn't think to tell me about the 93 not having the fuel pump relay under the seat.

I think you are right. I think the 89 and the 90 were the oddball years 91-93 stayed pretty much the same. Or something like that.

Thanks
It's ALIVE!
My neighbor (He was a Ford Mechanic) came over and we added a relay to the wiring and presto it works! For future reference if anyone is putting a V8 in a 93 4cyl car make sure that the harness you use has THREE relays on it. There is not a spot in the car and you will have to add one yourself. Thanks to all of you for your help! |

Glad you got it going and I'd say the pump relay and hardshell is still on the V8 donor car. EEC and pump relay connectors sometimes get cut off when people pull donor harness's out of cars. The 93 4 cyl. Mustang should have a CCRM which has the pump, EEC, fan and AC relays in an enclosed box and was likely removed with the old harness. Now that you've got fuel pressure, hopefully the rest of the project will go your way as well.
