Will my Mustang rot out if its sits? How do proof it?

I have a 94 Mustang 5.0 5 speed. It has a Bassani X pipe with flowmaster 10 series. I am affraid that if I keep it in my unheated garage it will rot out or atleast cause the exhuast to form leaks and not pass inspection. Should I keep it or sell it?

How can I keep it from going to $hit when sitting? I live in Pa...

Is it rotted now??

I don't see it rotting out in one winter in a garage....

Does your garage have water sitting in it? I have a garage and mine is sitting outside in the driveway.

Im sorry I am just a little confused with your post.

Put a car cover over it, and an open tupperware container of glycerine inside the car. It will absorb tons of moisture.

it shouldnt rot, and if ur worried about it rusting, i think you could spray WD-40 or something on it to prevent rust if your that worried about it. But if its inside, you shouldnt have a problem. I had my old 89 Tempo sitting in a barn for months with a new exhaust, and no problems. Also, had my 88 Tempo GLS sitting outside, behind a friends barn in the grass from june till late October, and the exhaust looked new.

Because of the exhaust you listed is whats on the car. Theres is a better chance it will rot. Yes, spray wd40 on your paint to prevent rust -_-

It's in a garage, is there moisture in the garage? I store my 95 in a unheated garage and have had no issues with rot. I live in PA too.

Definately clean it up before you put it in there, don't leave salt from the roads or anything sitting on it over the winter. It should be fine.

Some garages do not have adequate vents and the moisture can collect in there. Those curved metal garages and sheds are bad for that unless you have decent vents on the roof. During the day in the sun they heat up, at night, the metal cools and the moisture condenses on the metal (including your exhaust) and the next day, the cycle repeats itself.

For longer term storage, I've used a coat of used motor oil/trans fluid wiped on stuff with a rag and it works good. WD40 works but the mineral spirts evaporate in a few days and all that is left behind is a thin coat of mineral oil but I'm sure either way is better than nothing.

What else can I do to preventing anything going bad from sitting? I pulled the plates in Sept and wont put it back on the road until next Dec.

Completely suck out the gas or put gas in it and put some sta-bil in it. Other than that, you'll be fine.

Ok, here's what I did since I am currently deployed and my stang is sitting at home. I found me an old rug about the size of the stang, placed it on the garage floor and park the stang on it. Concrete floors in a non-heated garage will create condensation under your car. i just used the old rug to create a barrier.

Put "Purple Power" De-Ruster on all of your exposed metal that you do not want to rust.

Try not to put it on the paint.

i wouldn't put anything on the paint. the paint is protecting the metal already. any petroleum based products may discolor the paint.

If the garage has half decent ventilation, and your car is clean, there is nothing to worry about. We put em away in Nov and pull em out in April up here. Crack a window a 1/4 inch, throw a cover on it, add some fuel stabilizer to the tank, pump the tires up to 40# and you'll be fine.
