My Miss...

So I bought a good running 88GT, got it home and started working on it..replaced lots of parts:
Explorer Intake
Design 3 Injectors
70mm TB
EGR/Air Pump/Charcoal Canister Delete
New MSD coil/distributor/wires
Bosch +4 plugs
Headman unequal shorties
BBK Cat delete H-Pipe
BBK CAI
Stock Heads/Bottom end
TPS set @.98
Timing set @ 12 deg.

I just put it all back together, and fired it up. It runs, idles fairly evenly (around 750, but jumps 100rpm each way) revs up fairly quick, alot stronger than before, but if I hold it steady at, say 1500rpm, it definatly has a miss. Exhaust smells like gas, plug 8 is wet, and 1 but not as bad, the rest sooty. Looking at the dizzy compaired to the manual, it looks like all my plugs should move to the counter-clockwise, but it's timed right?:

So I've checked and rechecked the firing order, making sure the plug ends are all on tight (used dielectic grease) looked inside the cap and saw that there was definatly spark going through the rotor to the cap (by the cap terminal "burn" marks, what am I missing? This is my first time setting up a ford 5.0, and fuel injuction, am I missing something obvious? Is that too many mods for the SD computer?

It does look like it MIGHT be a little too clockwise but who knows...
I had a similar miss and fuel smell in the past and it was a combination of two things. A bad FPR dumping fuel directly into the intake through the vac line and my not so great quality FMS racing wires were crossed over each other a few times in route to the plugs causing random miss. You've replaced a lot so anything could be suspect, injector stuck, bad wire, lower intake gasket (although I think that would make it lean.. On those new injectors. I'm not familiar with SD and how different injectors are compensated for.

I'm going to hook up a vaccum gauge to it tonight, see if the needle bounces, might be a vac leak? The only other thing it may be is a bad plug wire from the factory? I'll swap them out the old ones and see...

Plug wires are good, checked at lunch today (couldn't resist!) So FPR will be a good place to check, just going to take off the vac line going to it to see if it's wet. If I do change the FRP, I have to remove the whole fuel rail huh, to get to the screws? Damn...

No, you can cut some length off a standard L shaped allen wrench and fit it in there.

Well the FPR vac line was dry as a bone, not a whif of gas there...vaccum gauge was steady at 14 in/hg (is that normal at idle, car was cold idling at about 850) which would lead me to believe that I don't have a vaccum leak. So could I be looking at a stuck open injector? Any ideas folks?

its those piece of shit not good for a damn thing bosch +4 plugs. In 9 yrs of doing auto parts I am yet to see those run worth a shit. Who ever sold you those is a fucking idiot, and well you get -10 points for listening to him. Through some autolite 24's or 25's what ever stock is gap them at 50ish and let it be done.

FUCK BOSCH PLUGS

-14 is pretty low. Most cars are around -19 to -20 vacuum. My car with an fcam gets -14 vacuum.

So I just pulled the #8 plug again, soaked. So I threw in a new champion that came with the car, no change, wet aswell. I'm starting to wonder about the #8 injector, the plug is a little dark, so there is spark, just being drowned?

Undo the #8 injector at the connector, start the car, I know its a tough fit, but if you can re attach the injector see if the running condition of the motor changes.

If I'm not mistaken and someone chime up if I am...
The injectors are fired by a ground pulses back through the 10 pin connectors, maybe the #8 injector wire is bad and touching something or something around those 10 pin connectors.
You can look through the wiring diagrams and trace it out
Mustang FAQ - Engine Information

Maybe number 8 piston has a hole in it You can bust out the compression tester but you might get strange results because of the fuel washing that cylinder.

I pulled the plug of the injector, started right back up and no change at all, plugged it back in, same. I think it must be the injector, at least I hope it is so I don't have to chase a wiring problem...

Wires ar good, when I unplug the #8 plug wire, runs worse. I think I'll reset the dizzy in the hole and see what happens before yanking the injector...

are you sure the MAF sensor you put on is calibrated for the size of injectors you are using? I think that can screw with things too
