Shock, struts, springs installation estimates

How much does it cost to get springs struts and springs on a 87 lx 5.0 ?
I was quoted about 750 including camber plates, labor, parts and alignment.
Is that ripe-out or a reasonable price ?

Thanks

Depends on what kind of shocks, struts, and springs you're going with. CC plates are about $200, labor should run around 3 hours, most places that would be about $195. If you can change break pads you can change shocks / struts / and springs.

KYB -GR2 with ford racing motorsport springs drop about 7/8. Are CC plates required. Is there a web site to illustrate how to ?

No you don't need CC plates for that, you can probably get it to about -.5* camber from the strut plates which is close enough. Save the $200 for sure.

Install it all yourself and save some $!!

It's really easy to do, I'd never pay anyone to do that job on my car...

just watch the front springs, they can be a pain and dangerous if your not careful. also if you do it yourself remove your swaybar end links off of the a-arm before you remove the strut, the spring pressure broke mine.

When you pull the front springs out, here is a little trick I like to use. Run a rachet tie through the spring and and leave just a little slack in it. Then when you unbolt the strut from the a arm, use a jack to lower it down. On rare occasions, the spring does kind of jump out and go flying across the garage. But having the rachet tie on it keeps it from expanding, therefore it won't come out on it's own.

yeah good point Sidewayz i took one in the thigh when i changed mine. i used a ratchet strap on the inside (closest to motor) to install the springs.

I put a jack under the control arm, unbolt the tie rod, strut, and sway bar link. Then just lower the control arm via the jack until it bottoms out. Should just fall out once you lower it all the way. Depending on the spring you might have to pop it out with the bar for jack. You could always use a spring compressor, but I'm not comfortable with them enough to use them (the cheap one's that is).

yeah i still havent found the spring that hit me, i threw it in the woods i have a set of compressers but i didn't think i would be able to use them because of how the spring sits in the a-arm.

I just run a chain through them loosly tthrough the k-member, just for saftey.

The with any dampers you get what you pay for. KYB are better than stock yes, but you should pick the springs 1st than have someone qualified pick righ dampers for those springs. They have to work togother. I just bought four Bilsteins for $800 Prob more than you need on a street car but I'm trying to give you an idea that there are many different dampers out there. Some quality ones can be had for cheep, just do your reasearch. Check out www.cornercarvers.com but don't post just search and read. Its a tough crowd over there.

As far a CC plates, thay are cheep and can only help in tuneing your suspension. They can help handeling and reduce uneaven tire usage. You can also change your alinement to handel better of you happin to be going to a Auto-x oor open track event than change it back. I say get them.

Good choice. Here is a Shock and Strut Install article to give you a good idea as to what's involved. A repair manual would come in handy too.
