When a free engine isn't free...Big Block/Fox swap?

Ok,

So, like I said I'm new to the Mustang thing. Well, we went to the local SAAC swap yesterday and I got the last piece I needed to get my 'vert going (a timing cover). I went with a bunch of my buds, so of course we had to stop at the local Hooters for lunch. :wink

Anyhow, my buddy turns to me and says, "You know, you should just put my 460 into your car and be done with it." He's got a complete, carb to oil pan 460/C6 out of a Lincoln (I think it's a '77) he said I can have gratis.

So, I'm thinking it's a bad idea to put it in the 'vert, but was looking at maybe picking up a 4 banger notch to do it with (I've seen em for like $150 on the Milan Dragway classifed site). Gonna go with the 4 banger cuz they're cheap, and most everything suspensionwise will have to be replaced anyway (better LCA's in the rear, beef up the rear axle, etc.)

So, what this long winded post is about, actually, is who's done a FE swap before?
Is it a nose heavy pig?
I'm thinking manual brakes, manual rack, subframe connectors and an 8 point cage...
Maybe up the compression to 9.5/10:1.
What about the 8.8? Should it be swapped for a 9"?
Should be fairly quick in the 1/4, but wouldn't wanna take it on any twisties.... What about t

He was saying to go with a motor plate, it'd be the easiest. How 'bout headers? I quick looked at Summit's site and didn't find anything...

Damn, I went from 1 Mustang to potentially 2. So much for the plate on the Duster (IH850Z)...

Does anyone have any "real world" experience they can share?

Thanks,

Jay

here at a local speed shop i work at we sell fox body 460 swap kits. they come with motor mounts, hooker headers, a oil pan to clear the cross member, oil pump, gaskets and a few other misc. parts.

also as far as the cage and rear end go, lets get some more information on this motor. if its fairly stock you wont need all that, 8.8s can be built pretty damn tough. what kind of heads/cam/intake set up does it have?

Yeah, the engine is pretty much stock. I was thinking of milling the heads, valve job, getting an aluminum intake, a cam, etc. Of course, since the car's smaller, I'd have to get a better stall for the torque converter too.

PM me off the board, if you could, to talk $$$ for that kit. Also, my neighbor (he picked up an 84 LX) wants to put in a 351W, and was wondering if you had a kit for that. :wink

Thanks,

Jay

the kits for the 460 run about 820.00 bucks. but like i said that includes your oil pan, oil pump, shaft, pickup, dipstick, motor mounts, hooker longtube headers. i would advise doing a cam/intake swap at least while it is all out now is the time to do it. the 351s are pretty simple, they make motor mounts and headers for them, they are alot cheaper of a swap too. anymore questions let me know.

Oh yeah, one other question...

Will it stick up farther to require a taller hood?

Sorry for the newbie questions...

i would guess depending on what kind of intake/carb set up you go with, it will need a taller hood. I just ordered a glasstek 4 inch cowl for my car
