forged pistons?

I am going to be doing a longblock motor exchange on my 91 5.0 for $1,200, and I was wondering if it is worth throwing in some forged pistons and moly rings for $400 more. I don't have a lot money to spend and Don't plan on going over 450hp. I do have a 10 psi supercharger, holly intake, 30lb injectors, and a full exaust. I will be installing a 3200-3400 stall lock-up converter at the same time. I was also wondering if that 400 would be better spent on something else. " less debt or paint" LOL Thank you for you input

If your tune is spot on, save the 400 for the guy that tunes it. If you plan on not getting a proper tune...... then 400 is cheap insurance, lol

Are the pistons usually the first to go? also, the pistons I was looking at are a 8.5:1 ratio(dish) will I have a noticeable change in power( more or less) . Will I be able to run more boost? Thanks

Perfect pistons for boost. Keep in mind that your head's combustion chamber affects your ratio. So when choosing pistons, they usually llist an example head chamber. Maybe you already saw that/know that, but thought I would add that. Detonation is a bitch on pistons. I think you will be fine with them though. Just get a good tune. Depending on what you have for compression now (assuming stock 9:1) then yes, you can run more boost.

With 10psi you should be safe, just keep the timing down. I agree with the second post.

Proper tune or pistons. You'll make more consistent power with the tune.

it is cheaper and much easier to go ahead and put the forged pistons in now. gives room to move up the boost and they are just more forgiving, they can take more abuse. Rattle the engine and you could be buying them later anyway even if you have a good tune. get some bad gas and not know it, some bone head puts the wrong gas in the wrong hole at the pumps when filling the tanks. just do it and be happy you did. it is also a better selling point if you want to sell it. even with a good tune it always seems mustangers can tear up a iron piss pot and with boost it only happens faster. LOL ask me how I know.

Just don't skimp on the tune, and you'll be really happy
