How much will 4 cyl. springs lower my stang?
I have a 90 hatch which has eibach sportline springs and the drop is perfect. The only problem I have with them is at the track and is killing my short times (high 1.8's). Currently I have strange 10 way adjustable struts, no sway bar, rear upper and lower control arms, mm subframes, with 275/50/15 MT drag radials and stock rear shocks. I plan on getting the strange rear adjustables soon. My best e.t. is 12.58 at 110 with a 1.87 short time. I'm pushing 325 rwhp which I think can get into a 12 flat at least with the right suspension. I was planning on running 4 cyl. springs up front with half a coil cut out. I was wondering if any fox owners have installed 4 cyl. springs with a half coil cut and if they used the coil isolaters. If so how much did it lower your stang? My eibach springs are too stiff of a rate to improve my 60 footers. Sorry for such a long write...I just need some opinions b4 I do it and waste my time. Thanks in advance

I was never a fan of cutting springs.. Others might tell you otherwise but they were not designed for that.. Put a coil-over kit on the front with a spring rate designed for drag racing..

If your car is lowered that will effect your times also...

I put them on my car and they took it down about 1.5 in. I put 90/10s on at the same time and about a week later my ball joint went out, (pretty sure it was the new geometry/old balljoint), after I replaced the ball joints the car sat a little higher.

Your problem isn't stiff lowering springs. There is no reason why you can't hook with those springs. I've run in the 10s with Eibach and BBK lowering springs. What tire pressure are you running? Is the car automatic or manual transmission?

What size gear do you have?

Its a manual trans and the tire pressure is set at 15 to 17 psi depending how the track is. I have 373 gears, when I cross the traps I'm right at 5,500 rpms. I was thinking about going with coilovers up front, but my only problem is that I cant find some 17x8 cobra r replicas, and I'm not even sure if they'll fit and what bs to use. I'm not sure , but I always thought the eibach sportline springs were a stiffer rate then the eibach pro kit springs, correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for the replys also.

I'd try 12 to 13 pounds in the tires and try different launching techniques. Launching hard on drag radials with a manual transmission is a fine art because a manual transmission shocks the tires alot harder than an automatic. If you put a 26x8.5 slick on that car it will hook like a mofo.

with that gear and that HP, I would think 1.87 is a little high. Darrell is right on the radials, I have a stick car and have had no luck with them. I went back to a slick and it helped out alot. youll never be able to sidestep the clutch on those radials, you're gonna have to feather it a bit, at the expence of clutch life. With stiff front springs you can soften up the rear shocks a little and you'll still get a little bit of weight transfer, rear travel isn't that bad as long as you don't skew pinion angle.

Buying the MT drag radials was my first mistake, after I put them on I thought I was gonna hook a little better. But then after reading on a few forums many people were saying that a MT drag radial is "better" for an auto trans and an et street drag or slicks are "better" for a manual trans because they have a wrinkle wall so there's a little "give" from the shock of manual trans. My only problem is that if I use slicks, I'm afraid of the t-5 breaking, its still 100% stock and is rebuilt. Thanks guys, I need to be posting more often before I buy things from now on. |

With my experience, if you run a bigger gear, your t-5 lasts a bit longer. Stock pinion angle is best, but on a launch, if your rear of the car squats to much that will change the angle alot. At low 12s you might be more at risk for breaking an axle. I run the 4cyl. springs and I like them there not too soft but you do get a bit more front lift out of them. You just cant go race any SOLO events or play F1 on the exit ramps. If you spin on the 60' I am willing to bet a set of slicks will fix it.

What type of bushings are in your rear control arms? Rubber, polyurethane or solid? Bushing type is what determines necessary pinion angle.

About 3in. Not much. That was a low 13 sec. pass. On that run I dident have much done, f-cam ,ported intake, 3.55, 65mm.t.b.. Honestly, I bet I don't even have 230 rwhp. I love my avatar though I dont consider it a wheelie. This guy at the track takes pics. professionaly and he took that one I liked it alot so I went to his site and he wanted $75 for a 10mp jpeg, so I just right clicked that one from him, I hate the trademark shit though. With a good suspension and your combo, you should be able to get em both up, for sure.

mid 1.80s NA, Low 1.70s. low 13s NA, and a damn 12.02 with 150hp, I spent all last season trying to break 11.99 or better, I just coulden't get it. I tried, all my buddies tried, I even asked this a couple of racers at the track, just wasn't happening I guess. I've noticed some really strong cars pull the wheels, some don't. For me It's my daily driver, I deliver pizzas in it. My goal for the car is break 11s easy, and get both wheels up. I'm really close. There is so much to suspension set-up. center of gravity, weight distribution, roll center, Percent of rise, theres tons of math and every aspect of it changes under load, so generaly people simplify is by stating the basics like, soft front suspension, medium to stiff rear suspension, shave weight from the front exct...
