Starter Question/ Problem (Heat Soak)

Ok, I have a slight issue that im sure many of you have dealt with already. When I drive for a while my starter gets heat soaked and doesnt want to turn over the engine. It is a higher compression 347 stroker so i can understand why its having a problem. I have BBK shorty headers. Soooo my question is what do you recommend? I have already got a better battery which seemed to help some, and I have a higher amp alternator on its way. I have a feeling thats not gonna do it. So i was thinking about a new starter. The mean green is an awesome starter from what ive heard, but the price is killer at $300. The other option is to just go with a PMGR(Permanent Magnet Gear-Reduction) Starter from a place like PA Performance or such. And save about $150 over the Green. But my main concern is the Heat Soak. Anybody running a PMGR starter and not have heat soak problems? TIA ---Sam

Wrap it with heat wrap. I have long tubes in my car and a high torque starter. I have not had to wrap it yet.... I have a 347cid also..

Yeah i was just looking at wrap on ebay. Maybe I will order some tonight.
Thanks for your Input. But i still think I should go with a better starter becuase even when its cold it barely wants to turn over. What starter brand are you running?

Thanks Stangzilla. Think im just gonna go with the high torque starter and wrap, cheaper and same affects as Mean Greens starter.

Buy a Powermaster starter or you can try a 92-93 Mustang starter.

Your starter heat problem may really be just a warn out starter. I had the same problem but it went away with nothing more then replacing mine with a cheapo rebuilt local parts store starter. A standard typical shorty setup should not cause starter heat problems. It would not hurt to wrap your starter but I think you need a new one.

Powermaster looks like a good investment, and i could run down to Summit and pick one up later this week, along with seats. Thanks for the Tip.

I thought I had a heat problem but come to find out it was just the body and battery ground needed to be cleaned?
