1988 5.0 alternator upgrade

I have heard you can upgrade to the newer 94-up style alternator easily.I have the new alternator, and the regulator plug goes right in,but there are two large guage wires black/white stripe and one small guage wire white/black stripe on the old alternator harness that I am not sure where they go.There is only one post on the newer style alternator (for battery feed I am assuming).Anyone?

Thanks, but that does not tell me where my two large guage (blk/white)wires end up or my smaller guage white/black wire go to after the conversion.I can see there is a jumper wire I have to add but I don't know what to do with my second factory harness plug..

OK. The cars harness ('88 GT convt.)has two alternator plugs. One plugs directly into the new style G3 alternators regulator plug with no modifications. The other harness plug with the two heavy black/white stripe wires and one thin white/black stripe wire has to be cut from the car, close to the plug. You then take the two large wires and connect them together using a large eye end. This will attach to the new G3 alternator output terminal which is threaded. The remaining white/black thin wire (stator wire)will plug into the new G3 alternators single wire stator hole with a donor plug from the junkyard or fabricate one from a connector. You must be careful this connection is not allowed to touch the alternator case or it will short out. That's it.Pretty easy once you know where the wires are supposed to go.Now,even with my crank underdrive pulley, the alternator is putting out plenty of power to run my electric fan, lights etc.
