Questions about 8.8 rear end gears

HEy all just wanted to run a question by everyone im newish to mustangs and didnt have all the facts straight i have a 1988 mustang LX 5.0 It will be used on the streets only except for the occasional weekend runs down to the race track

The one thing i didnt know for sure was the i heard that if i put in 3.73 gears into my rear end it would create a POSI rear but i didnt know for sure. any help you can shed on the subject would really help

your ring and pinion (gears ) size doesn't effect that.

+1 Gears have no effect on the action of the diff.

For a street car, 3.55's would be my choice. I have 3.73's in mine and it winds WAY too hi at cruise speed.

Auto or Manual?

Ok, before I get bombed, the "action" I was referring to is its traction function. Posi, open, LSD, whatever.

If it is a factory 5.0 it has a Trac Loc rear in it. I disagree about the 3.73 gears. I think IMO they are the best street gear for a manual. if you have an auto I would go 4.10. If you are askin about both tires spinning because yours dont then you prob just have worn trac loc clutches in your rear end...

+1 on the Trac Loc mention and the 4.10 automatic gears.

In my car in 5th gear at 70mph with 3.73's i am almost at 3000 rpm. In my opinion any more than that is to high of an rpm.

Well I am at about 2850 at 70 in 5th. The Tremec has a higher 5th gear than the T-5

ill have to agree with the people knowing thier stuff on this site.......i have only been on here a few weeks and i have asked my share of questions and i have learned a lot.

one thing i dont think that got mentioned was the site where you can get a rebuild kit for the trac loc limited slip..

http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...tKeyField=6942

and thats the carbon disc kit....you can get the basic one too

i say its worth it for the 60 extra dollars or so.
