just take it and sell it i doubht u need a 9 inch. they take alot of power to turn and you can build your 8.8 pretty strong. so get it and sell it and buy toys for your car.

I had a 9" in my 74 LTD and I used to leave the line with slicks and 4.11 gears in a c-6 with a 2400 stall behind a 460. That car weighed 2 tons and then some and the 9 inch never batted an eye after years of abuse. Torque converters came and went and still that 9 inch was fine, heh. I doubt you could launch like that on an 8.8 with a big block making decent torque and not tear something up after all that time. Especially in a heavy car with slicks.

But is it a stock from the factory 8.8? I doubt it. At the very least it would need C-Clip eliminators and possibly other axle work to live like that. Not to mention anyone running that fast would prolly tear down the axle alot to change gear ratios and check the friction plates, etc.

I didnt mean the 8.8 couldnt be built to handle alot of power or live at that power level, I meant I didnt think an 8.8 could survive 2 years of launches on slicks, with a decent gear, and a heavy car, with a bigblock, with no failures. I meant an 8.8 that was stock cept for a gear, my bad for not elaborating that.

Yes, you should go with the 8.8 imo.

Because that is a straight bolt in from your 7.5 to an 8.8 if you can find one, which should be as easy as your local salvage yard.

Just because I liked how reliable my 9 inch was in the LTD doesnt mean I am gonna put one in the fox, since I dont make enough power to need one anytime soon. Is it nice to have a 9 inch? Sure. Is it a must have for a street car? As others have pointed out, its not. Would I put one in if my buddy had one and was gonna give it to me? Absolutely. But I wouldnt go out of my way to get one either.

like i said id get it and sell it and get an 8.8 you would be surprised how much a 9 inch would slow it down. they take alot more power to move than a 8.8

DO NOT PUT A 9IN IN

So go buy an 8.8 from a salvage yard then. A 9" is unnecessary in a low horsepower car and a car that needs a 9" will not be using a factory 9" housing anyway. I run an 8.8 in my car and run low 9s with no problems. Sure, I have aftermarket axles and other parts but you are going to need the same upgrades in a 9" if you are making any kind of horsepower.
