building a 1985 gt

Hey everyone, i have the oppurtunity to build a 1985 mustang gt with 25k miles on it.. its got an edelbrock carb and edelbrock headers. I would want it as a daily driver so is the carb ok for cold starting? Do i want to switch to mass air flow for like 600 bucks? if a carb is no good for DD than how much would it be to get a efi setup? I know im going to do either a ram air or cold air intake and a full exhaust with long tubes immediatley to free up like 30 horsepower. So yea just let me know what you guys think. And its got these 17 inch rims on it they look ridiculus do you guys have any good 16 inch suggestions to hook up well?

no there not the 89-93 had mass air flow and in 93 they changed the pistons and shaft to make easier on idle.. but yea 87-93 i guess. you think the 85 has good potential?

hell yeah the 85 has potential...... just put a Holley 650 double pumper, a good exhaust system and a set of gears and it would be a great DD.

I love the 85 my car looks bone stock from the outside I love the way it looks I have a 10 point roll cage, msd ignition, holley 650, air gap intake, brake boost eliminatror, ford racing A/C delete, battery in the trunk, 4:10 gears, subframe connector, hurst short throw and i just mounted a starter box on the roof roll cage loop. The motor is a 308 but I am looking for a 351. My next upgrade is coil over front suspension an electric fan and electric water pump, Then nitrous
I forgot it has BBK long tube headers and Moroso stainless mufflers

I personnally would keep the '85. My mother-in-law's boyfriend has an '84 I've been trying to get a hold of. 17's look good on the 4 headlight models. Check out alot of the cars in the American Iron races or Maximum Motorsports, their race cars look great.

thank you people. Im going to buy it, you think i should stick with the edelbrock carb or go to a holley double pumper? do i have to retune that shit everytime i get a new mod?? i hate tuning carbs!! damnit

AND should i switch to mass air flow if i want to start doin stuff? or is that just an efi thing?

AND if i have access to a lift could i do longtubes myself? i dont have much mechanical experience

Yes, you can install long tube headers yourself. They're not to difficult and the use of a lift definitely makes it an easier job.

You don't have to tune things over small mods, but of course all the fine tuning you can do (correctly) will help out.

If you go EFI, you'll need mass air or speed density. You'll want mass air.

Sure, if you get a lift you can probably put the long tubes on yourself, assuming your exhaust is made for long tube.
