adjustble Fuel pressure Regulators....

I have a question concerning adjustable fuel pressure regulators. I have a slightly modded 89 GT and I was wondering how I could get a little bit of horsepower kinda cheap. I plan to put a new intake manifold on this summer for increased air flow and I was wondering how the fuel pressure regulators would help me get more fuel in for a better mixture. I was also wondering if I should replace my fuel injectors to upgraded ones as well. maybe 21 or 24 psi? would i be able to tune the regulator before i put the manifold on to get more power or is it pointless on a near stock setup? Also, has anyone had experience with the BBK pressure regulators??

Thanks,
Mike

1) I ran a BBK AFPR on my 88 GT for about 6 months w/ a liquid filled gauge w/ no problems but I know alot of people do not like them... I forget the reason though. There are a few other companies you can look at also, for ex kirban, aeromotive, etc.

2) Depending on how much work you want to do, you can get a set of GT-40 heads from the junkyard for less than it will cost you for a new manifold. Get them ported and throw them on there. You will see MUCH better power gains from a set of ported GT-40 heads than an aftermarket manifold. You stock E7 heads are the bottle neck of the engine, upgrade them first and get them out of there!

3) You said 21 or 24psi injectors.... I think you are referring to 24 lb/hr injectors. Anyway, you do not need them. The stock 19lb/hr fuel injectors are good for APPROX 300hp... give or take. Until you do your heads and some other minor bolt ons I wouldnt worry about upgrading.

4) Cheap power - Nitrous

Any idea on which cars I can get those heads off of? I know the 93 cobra has em but I doubt I'm gonna find one of those in the junkyard. Where can I get them ported? How dificult is it to replace those heads? should I get a new cam with the heads?

93 (Cobra) to 97 5.0 Explorers and Mountaineers(?) have GT40s.

97 1/2 and newer Explorers and Moutaineers have GT40P, which are actually an improvement over GT40.

GT40Ps may require new headers because of the dramatically altered spark plug angle.
