Valve sizes are 1.84/1.54 compared to 1.78/1.46 on E7 heads. I do not know the intake and exhaust port volumes but the heads do flow much better than E7 heads. As with any head, you should install valve springs that are designed to work with the cam you will be using. If you are not sure what springs to use you can look at the cam card that came with the cam or call the cam manufacturer. Why are P heads better? Because they are a better design. E7 heads are a 20+ year old design and a very poor design at that.

E7 heads came on 87-95 5 liter Mustangs and possibly 86 models as well. GT40P heads came on 5 liter Explorers but there is a certain year range that you need to look for but I don't remember what years... 93-95 Cobras have GT40 heads.

Cast iron GT40 heads have 3 vertical lines on the end of the head. Aluminum GT40 heads have 4 vertical lines. I believe the P heads have 3 lines with the letter P but I am not sure.

GT-40 heads will have GT cast in the right hand corner just below the valve cover. The ones I have also have the number 67 cast into the left corner but CC out at 59cc. These were new in 95.
