1st Mustang 1990 GT Convertible

Hey everyone .....

So long story short .........I am 32 live in Oklahoma and just inherited a 1990 GT Mustang Convertible. My best friend was a mustang lover and just finished a build of a 1992 GT Mustang after 4 years to perfection and just bought this one to start a new project and teach me. On 3/30/10 we were out riding on our bikes when he flew past me doing 90mph and didn't see the dump truck with no brake lights stopping and turning right. He passed away at 32 years due to blunt force impact .........

So in memory of him I am restoring this pony ..........I am going to have alot of questions and look forward to learning from all of you and sharing my 1st build with you .........

I know that he just replaced the head gasket and then realized he needed to adjust the rockers ...........

Is this something i can do with the engine rubbing or do i have to manual turn the engine .............and info is appreciated

Also does any one have a extra copy of a repair manual for this car they would be interested in selling ............

I will post pics of the car soon !!!

Keep the rubber to the road .......Rivet711

when i adjusted my rockers i do it when the engine is off. you can take the spark plugs out to make it a little easier to turn over if you want. but i just started at number one cylinder and worked my way around. you adjust the intake lifter when the exhaust is just opening or shortly there after. and then you adjust the exhaust when the intake is all the way open. then you adjust the lash accordingly. sorry to hear about your buddy, that terrible.

Welcome to the site, and like others I am very sorry to hear about your buddy. It is pretty cool that you are building the car kinda as a tribute or memory of him though. Here you will find a lot of really cool people with a lot of good tech info, and more than that with really good hearts, everyone here is like familly and people try to help eachother any way they can. Good luck with the build and post up some pics!

By the way where in Oklahoma are you from? I am 33 and grew up in OKC, graduated PCN '94

Thanks everyone for the kind comments ........

JBIGBOOTSY ..........how do i know if they are pedestal .....I believe they are stock .......the last text message he sent me was that all he had to do was some adjusting on the rockers and the car would be ready to be a daily driver. when i finally got it started it sounds great however i can really hear them tapping loud ....

95StangMX ..........I live in claremore and graduated in 95 orginally from New York though ...........Just moved back here from California 3 years ago served 4 years in the Marines then got out and stayed in Sacramento for a couple years

BTW ...........anyone point me in the direction of a repair Manuel for a good price and a battery (which battery is the best)

stock = pedastal. You could get away with torqueing them down without specs. Pretty easy, welcome!

Chilton's Ford Mustang 1989-92 Repair Manual: eBay Motors (item 250632941427 end time Jun-13-10 07:36:10 PDT)

I have heard that some libraries have very detailed repair books but that might be few and far between.

Okay guys so I had to pull the intake off to get the drivers side valve cover off ........thank god they had brand new rubber gaskets he put in them .........3 rockers were completely loose so we tightened them down and re installed everything ..........Car wouldn't stay idling at first so we had to adjust the distributor to the car idle at 1 grand ......

sounded good no more knocking however it sounds like water running weird noise .......

Now i have to find out why the fan has the power cables hanging and were it connects ...........then get a battery that fits and take her for a test drive ...
