Why not use the parts that came with your new equipment?

What do you mean by base plates? Are you talkin about pushrod guides?
If you use the pushrod guides you have to make sure you have hardened pushrods..

Did you get pedistal mount rocker or did you convert to stud mount?

yeah, i think they are just shims...the heads are fully rebuilt and already have guides installed with the plastic or teflon on the ends, i did not know if i should use the shims....ive bought alot of parts that come with extras to meet different makes/models/setups....IE different heads may require different shims or bases but still use the same rockers...thanks

If your refering to the shims then you have pedistal mount and need the shims to set them set up.

they are stock gt40 p heads...with threaded studs sticking out of the heads for the rockers to slide over and nuts to tighten them down with

That is what I said. But it already looks like there is a set attached already.. They look different than the one on the left which is the style I am used to seeing, but the silver ones just maybe are a diffetent style where the pushrod goes through the hole..I would take off those other ones and put on the ones on the left and make sure you torque the studs....

What locks up? The rockers arms? You realize you basically have to stand on the springs to compress them, right?
