white smoke

i readjusted my valve lash, only to realize that ive got positive stop rockers.. stupid me.. and if it wasnt all the way down.. the nuts would come loose and slip a rocker off the valve. i consider myself lucky i didnt loose that valve down in the cylinder. i would have cried. now, the last two times i adjustted my valve lash, i had white smoke coming out of my pipes for about a day. i didnt notice it after that, but ive still got the popping coming from the left bank when the car comes up to temperature and then it dies. so heres my guess.. but i dont want to tear into the engine if for some reason im wrong.
head gasket? when the coolant system pressurizes at 175 or 180 whichever my thermostat opens at.. its spitting water into my #7 and 8 cylinders. however i heard that if i had water in the cylinders the spark plugs would burst. and ive not seen any of that so far. ive also heard that i could have a vaccum leak, but in my little mind, thermal expansion would close a hole, not open one. so... i need help. yet again.

Well Not saying it wont happen as far as the plugs bursting but I would think they would foul because of the water.. Well it sounds like to me you need to get in there and change those gaskets.. I would do both and get those heads checked for straightness... trueness whatever they call it..

how often do brand new iron heads warp? im just being a girl about changing the gaskets or anything in there.. so the plugs wont necisserily break.. but they will foul out? lucky for me i dont have any fouled plugs.

Not often does it happen to iron heads but nothing like puttin it all back together and finding out you have head trouble...

Well if its a intake gasket I would think you would get water in your oil because there is oil up there in that lifter valley..

do you think that cracking my intake manifold could cause all that? i over heated the car once.. way over 250 and its an aluminum manifold. and would i be able to see if it was? and as far as i recall, last time i drained the oil (last week) there wasnt water in it.

Well its possible but that would not give you the white smoke. Give the intake a good lookin over. But I think you are gonna have to change those head gaskets though.. + you are gonna have to replace the intake gaskets when you do the heads anyway.. Bite the bullet bro and do them...

you can just pull the dip stick and if there's water in there it will be milky.but since it's just the two cylinders you most likley do have a bad head gasket.do a compression test first just to make sure.

i did one, and thats why im having such a problem, my lowest cyl was 145psi and my highest was 160. i dont recall those two cylinders.. but that was another thing that confused me... if my head gasket was bad, wouldnt it fail the compression test?

yes it would fail,so I would then try a leak down test next.

White smoke means coolant, period. Stop being a girl about it and tear stuff down. It sucks, but that's where you are. It takes less time to pull that off, on a carb engine, than we've spent talking here and on your last thread.

crap
that looks expensive. but it will tell me what i need to know about each cylinder.. and im guessing it had to be done at top or bottom dead center for each cylinder.
