Ford explorer head and intake

I work in a junk yard and a few people told me that i should put ford explorer heads and intake on my car. Does it make anymore power with those heads and intake.

Yes, get 97 1/2 and up heads if possible (GT40P). Before that, they had iron GT40.

Oh yeah, it's a gain. The GT40s came out as the 93 Cobra heads. GT40Ps flow better than those. As far as the intakes, you'll see gains with those as well.

For a low dollar upgrade, it's definitely a great bang for the buck buy.

The only trick is the headers; stock Mustang headers work, FMS stainless shorties work, MAC GT40P specific shorties work and out side of that there aren't any guarantees. People report a lot of success with long tubes. Some people just pound a little dimple where needed and do fine. You'll want to get some 90* spark plug wires to help out.

Honestly, I just say get the heads and mock up whatever you have on hand for spark plug clearance and go from there.

About 110 pounds.

I haven't put them on. I was going to get all of my top end parts and put them on over my break, but I wound up not doing that for different reasons. Of course, it depends on the rest of your setup as well, but I read an article from one of the 'stang mags about putting GT40Ps on with roller rockers and getting 45hp. It's worth your time to pay for them and slap them on, so it's definitely worth your time to do it for free.

Finally found that article:

http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec..._gt_40p_heads/

As far as the date, not sure. Check to see if they are GT40P with this, lifted from another forum.

"GT40s have 3 bars on the end and GT stamping, instead of the 4 bars and GT40P stamping. "

That stamping will be in the corner, at the top of the block. If you're standing facing the engine, it will be around the number one and number 8 spark plugs. The left, front most corner and the right, backmost corner of the head - on the flat part that sits right on top of the block, not the vertical face of the head.

Pretty sure they will; I'll do some research.

EDIT: Looks like it, I know I've read people getting it to work before.

Copied and pasted again.......this is the third time I've posted this in 2 days.

Standard unequal length shorty headers won't work because of the GT40P spark plug location. MAC offers a coated GT40P-specific shorty and Ford Racing offers a set of stainless shorties that work. Stock Mustang headers work also. Most equal length shorties will not work. BBK equal length shorty headers have been known to fit. MAC, Hedman and BBK full length 1 5/8" headers fit. Some full length headers require minor clearancing on some primary tubes but is not a big issue. Spark plug wires with 90 degree boots are recommended with all headers.
