rear end width/tire size question

Hey guys... I have an '87 mustang I just recently finished building a 460/C6 for. I am told the car is equipped with an explorer 8.8", disc brake rear end. It is an 8.8 and it does have discs but it also has the 4-bolt pattern so I need to verify 100%.

I am wondering if anyone knows about what size tire I can fit on it with a 15X8 rim with 4.5" back spacing if it does indeed have an explorer rear end in it. I know it is only about 1/2" wider on each side than the mustang rear but I thought may be someone with experience in this could help save me some time/money...

Wouldnt you need 6.0" backspacing?

6" b.s. for a 10" rim is what people run... I ran these rims (15x8 DragLites) on my 7.5" Capri with 27"x10.5's with no issues. I just don't know exactly how this car compares, especially with the slightly wider rear end (if it is in fact an explorer rear).

BUMP!

Also, how can I find out if I have an explorer rear end for sure? Other than seeing if it has 31 spline axles... that tag is gone so that won't work either...
