Hey Alan,

Is there a difference in putting a stall converter compared to a torque converter? i'm having a transmission shop put the AOD transmission in my car but they do not specialize in performance and i'm guessing a stall converter is a performance upgrade?

They are all torque converters, stall converter is a slang term for a converter with a higher stall speed rating than the factory unit.

Being the owner of Dirty Dog performance I am sure to be partial to my own work. I suggest avoiding TCI,B&M and hughes. Edge is questionable, I have seen them both ways. Billet is not a brand it describes the front cover. The cover I use is the same one edge uses. it comes from sonnax and is a forged billet casting. Billet simply means one piece, TCI and B&M will weld bar stock to the OEM GM FWD front cover and drill holes in it for bolts.

Please go with Alan. I do not know him personally but he built my converter, and between him and Dan (silverfox) at click click they put together a kit for my transmission to beef it up. From what I have seen www.dirtdogperformance.com builds the best converters and the only ones that will stall anywhere near what they are rated on a foot brake. Good guy and good products you will not be unhappy. Do it right the first time. I would also say without knowing the rest of your setup to go with 2800 - 3000 on the stall. That may not be ideal for stock, but when you get some mods thats where these cars usually like to be as long as you aren't talking super radically modded.
