A question about transmissions!! i need advice!!!
I currently have a 1990 mustang gt 5.0. I need to replace the tranny and engine. i am not using it to race but would enjoy performance. please advise me if you have a suggestion on anything that might help me. my buddy is a mechanic so i dont need help on that aspect but i kinda want to change it from auto tranny to manual. My question is, if anyone knows how difficult or expensive this is? and is it worth it or should i keep it AT. Thanks for your help!!!

its an easy swap to do and everything is pretty straightforward. It would cost around $1200.t-5 est $500,pedals est $40 ,bellhousing est $100,FRRP 50ozflywheel $99,quadrant and cable $70, MGW shifter 170,king cobraclutch kit1$70,fly 2 crank bolts $15,dowels $10, PP bolts $15.IMO you should also add a steel bearing retainer($37) on your t-5 so you get better clutch action and not deal with clutch release issues which the aluminum ones are known for.I have did the swap on my own car so if you have any ?s PM me

Yeah, just look around; I think in the 5.0 Fourm there is a Technical Article Sticky that has these details.
You also need to consider how much power you're putting down because a stock T5 is not strong at all. |
