The best computer managment

I would really like anyone's suggestions on the best computer chips and hand held programmers. Its for a 87 gt 5.0 with free-flow exhaust and upgraded injection with spacer and bigger throttle body fan delete and ac delete along with smog pump.-------

explain and chances are you will not need a tune. And there is not hand held for our cars. Also have you converted your car to mass air?

There's a lot of different routes to go. You can do a TwEECer or a Moates Quarterhorse which are very similar. They require a laptop and are actually able to change parameters in the EEC. They have a bit of a steep learning curve but are very capable. There's also the Anderson PMS which has a handheld control unit and that piggybacks on to your computer and "fudges" data going in and coming out. They are easier to use but also aren't as capable as the other 2. You could also go with a stand alone system like a megasquirt or an AEM or FAST ect.. .but if you're just playing around with your car and not serious about racing, those are probably overkill. I'm sure there's a few more units that I've missed, but your best bet is to check out stangtuning.net and do a little research and see what would suit you best.

There is no one best, only best for what you need. For example, if you're building some sort of screaming 8,000 RPM monster with eight EGT probes, crank triggered, with eight separate coils for the ignition, AEM has a box that would be perfect for that motor. On a car like yours, you'd probably be throwing your money away.

We've recently come out with a plug and play MegaSquirt-II setup for $560 that does not require converting to mass air flow. It is aimed more at heavily modified NA cars or turbo motors than a mildly modified engine, but can get results there too if tuned properly.

There's a couple different ways to hack the stock ECU too, like the Moates Quarterhorse.

Keep in mind that any tuning solution that lets you tune the ECU yourself is going to take quite a bit of time on a dyno to get the most out of it. If you don't know how to tune, or don't have a good way to measure if the changes you're making are actually improving things, you may just end up with enough rope to hang yourself.

I bought the Moates Quarter Horse over the Tweecer for one reason. The Quarter Horse software is far superior. Either way you are going to need a wideband, so you can monitor your air/fuel ratio. Or else your just shooting in the dark! I would recommond the Innovate LC1. Can be had off of Ebay for around $180. Good luck in your quest.

You probably won't need a tuner until you are heavily modified anyway!
