351W firing order in a 289/302

Anybody know if the rumor is true that you can run a 351W cam in a 289 as long as you change the firing order to that of a Windsor? I want to put a nice solid cam I have for a 351 in my small block. All other aspects of engine i.e. heads, pistons, bottom end, carb etc are matched up fine for this cam. It is a 552/569 296' duration solid. Thanks for any info.
I was told by 2 guys that this would work fine, but you guys may know something different here!!

if its carbed the only thing to determine your firing order is the cam.If its a 351 cam use the 351 firing order
