Vortech rebuild

My old well used V1 has finally started growling. I found a place on Ebay that rebuilds for about $500. Based on some searches, Vortech charges about $750-1000. I'll call them tomorrow to verify. Which would you choose or do you know of anyone else?

A second option is rebuilding myself. I can buy the individual bearing and seals myself if i can find them, a lot of searches on the part numbers bring up dead links or just a list of what is needed, not places selling the actual parts needed. I found some places with "rebuild kits" for about $250 which seems kind of high. I have detailed instructions for doing the rebuild but I don't have a press and to be honest, paying more to have it done right instead of me spending time trying seems like a better choice.

dunno, I went the vortech route for $650ish on my novi 1k head unit if I remember right.

After I sent it to them they mailed me out a new head unit with three year warranty lol.

Give them a call and when you do ask them if your ebay store place is a licensed vortech seller/repair

When mine when bad it was the main shaft bearing. I didn't figure out until my buyer found out and told me. Prob would have been a $75 dollar fix -_-. I'd let vortech do it since you have a little doubt in your self, which is fine in my opinion. I'd hate yo see you start it and mess up and end up spending more then the rebuild from vortech.

Vortech said about $370 (if I heard him correctly) for a minor rebuild which is bearings and seals. The unit was in use for over 10 years so I wouldnt be surprised if it needs more.

Right now, it only grumbles on occasion on deaccel and idle (sounds almost like a bad Ford PS pump), I had plans for some 1/8 mile runs this Wednesday, I wonder if it will hold up for a few passes before I send it off

I would imagine that Vortech would sell rebuild kits for their products if you wanted to do it yourself. and it might come with an instruction manual on how to do it. just a thought

If the bearings are going bad, better to pull and rebuild now. Otherwise you risk ruining the shaft and potentially having the compressor contact the volute and fubaring the whole blower. And if that happens and puts metal into your motor... well... is it worth it?

They don't from what I could find and it seems they have no interest in giving out the information on how to rebuild them either because they have not published any technical specs or guidelines (part numbers, torques, endplay, tolerances etc..). There is a lot of people that have rebuilt them themselves and made some really nice write ups with pics and diagrams though. I looked at them and it is doable with the right tools, just not something I want to spend the time and effort on right now.

Well that's to bad that they don't suport the buyers of their product with rebuild info. I wonder if Paxton and ProCharger are the same way?
But anyway I can see what you mean about not wantting to get into rebuilding it yourself.

good luck with getting her fixed and back to new running condition

procharger charges $800 for bearings $400 just for new seals...

This is actually cheap

no blower company provides instructions for rebuilding, but the info is out there. Not too many special tools required, but you might have a hard time finding the bearings and seals and such.

Thats exactly what mine sounded like, and like I said above it was the main shaft bearing.

Not to invade your thread, but how did you get the "a place" in your first post to be a link? I need to learn how to do crap like that to save time with stuff.

Whenever you add a link, have you noticed that a portion of it is highlighted right after you add it in to the post? Just type whatever you want it to say over the highlighted part.

Just heard back from Vortech. Total is $540 +return shipping. It needed the "minor" repair (bearing and seals) for $300 something and the bearing housing replaced because it was worn past spec for $200 something. Not bad I guess.

That's not bad for 10 yrs of use. Considering the initial cost of a charger and how long it went before it needed to be rebuilt, that's really cheap hp in the long run.

send to vortech only. to have a v1 upgraded to an s, or t, or anything bigger it's $1,100 or atleast they told me, to have an A trim converted to an SCi trim.

Got it back and installed today, $586 total. Probably my imagination but it seems to build boost a little earlier than before. Maybe it just looks that way because I've been stuck driving my commuter car for the past 6 weeks.

Overall, it took them a while and their communication was lacking but it looks and sounds brand new, every screw, plug, drain, seal and bearing was replaced along with half of the outer case and hopefully will last another 10 years.
