Meth 101

So I think I will be getting a meth injection kit, and was wondering if the Snow Stage 2 kit is the way to go with my setup? (Novi 1000, 3" & 8" pulleys, UPR Power Pipe) I don't want to over-do it, but only want to do it once.

Any tips/advice is greatly apreciated!

Im a huge meth head lol... pop over at turbobuick.com and you'll see that's like there number one bolt on and have been using meth injection for years with killer results.

Spraying meth is a win win situation

- Increase horsepower safely by 10-15%.
- Lower air temperatures by 50-200+ degrees.
- Decrease cylinder temperatures up to 300 degrees.
- Reduce the effects of heat soak in warmer climates.
- Allows you to safely run more boost and timing.
- Reduces carbon and helps maintain a clean combustion chamber.
- Increases octane at user programmable boost levels

The whole purpose of a meth kit is to prevent detonation which is caused by high temps and pressures in the combustion chambers. Water has a high latent heat content, which makes it extremely effective at preventing the onset of detonation. Water injection also reduces the production of NOx (oxides of nitrogen). Methanol is 116 octane and has a very high flash point which again reduces detonation so with your blower you'll love it.

Snow seems to be hit or miss with people and from what i've seen there controller seems limited and on the cheap side of things but does the job.... I've never used one of there kits personally but have used an alkycontrol.com kit in my previous grand national and am using a devilsown kit in my syclone. Both kits are awesome but the alkycontrol kit is built with all an braided lines and has the most control ability of any kit out there which is why it's slightly more expensive then most kits.

Def give meth injection a shot though on your car.. use at least a 50/50 mix but more meth in that mix the better.

Just what I wanted to hear to justify the $350 kit. The local hi-perf store even has it in stock. So other than playing with the A/F ratios and adding a little timing, is there anything else I should do with my tune? Will the plugs need to be changed/re-gapped?

Cheers

used the largest nozzle on my whippled cobra. Ran it on pump gas at 23 lbs of boost ~600 hp and it allowed me to reduce injector duty cycle significantly while still running nearly full timing.

Seems to work well for pump gas boosted motors.

88 GT CHI headed 351w 10.8 @ 125 - still figuring it out.
03 Cobra 2.3 whipple 10.7 @ 129 - sold it
04 Mach 1 12.7 @ 109 mostly stock - sold it
89 LX procharged 302 515 hp 497 ftlbs 10.7 @130 mph - sold it

From what I have read, the kit isn't like nitrous where it "gives" you power, in a sense right? For example, if I throw the kit on, check AFRs and giver without changing timing, will I be able to "feel" the difference? From the sounds of it 50hp gains are common along with 50 ft/lbs, if not more, sound about right?

you'll gain from the cooling aspect but the big gains come into play as you advance the timing/boost with no ill effects

How do you set a kit up to run? Wot only? How fast does it go thru meth/water?

The stage 2 kit is boost referenced and adjustable for partial spray boost (say 2 psi) and max spray (say 5-6psi) So it fires up at 2 and maxes out at 5+ (if that't the numbers you set it to)

I'll tell you in a week how fast it goes through meth....

I'm curious, and too lazy to look up, what the safety mechanism is for that. Does the kit have something that adjusts timing, so that when the water/meth runs out, it automatically goes back to normal timing?

Not that I have seen, as far as I know, it's up to the driver to ensure the tank is always topped up. I plan on installing a "T" fitting to my windshield washer and filling it aswell so I am covered, not sure if there is a low washer fluid light that comes on in an 88?

There are different kits for different levels of protection. You can get the cheap AFM kits that has no pumps and uses pressure to inject the mix or you can go all out with lights, warnings, timing retards, low level trips, flow meters, multiple pumps with tachs for feedback etc.. I guess it depends on how much you want to pay. If you use an "extreme" tune that assumes a reliable specific metered meth mix or your engine will self destruct, I'd say it would be in your best interest to have a kit with more bells and whistles. Getting the methanol in there is cheap and easy, monitoring and managing it is the expensive part.

You don't go through meth that fast unless you are in the boost at every stop light. I used to top it off at every gas fill up. Used 1 gallon of -20 washer fluid and 4 bottles of heat to make my 50/50 meth water solution. Dirt cheap really.

Picked it up today, it comes with absolutely everything you need:

I'll be installing it this weekend, starting with the smallest jet and working my way up. It also comes with a low level indicator going to an LED. Should be fun!

I just installed a Snow kit on a friends 89. Car isn't back together yet from the new heads and intake. Hope to hell it works.

Everything was $400, could have waited for a shop to order it in and save $25 bucks, but I'm impatient
