I can see it helping a big heavy car get out the hole but what about my 2800 lb car?... what happens after the launch? Car will accelerate slower with a big heavy flywheel.

Like I said, there is an optimum for ever car. Lighter is not always better. Yes you will accelerate a tiny tiny bit faster after launch, but the flywheel really makes the most difference during launch and during shifts. If you powershift, you store energy in the flywheel as well between shifts, so a heavier flywheel gives you more stored energy between shifts as well. This works against you obviously if you don't powershift.

Real world.........back in 2003 swapped stock flywheel for Fidanza aluminum in a 95 Cobra. Car went faster. Not because of this physics bullshit and bogging but because the engine accelerated faster. Nothing else was changed. I don't have the numbers in front of me but I recall being impressed most by the gain in MPH.
Maybe we should all run heavier wheels and heavier rotating assemblies in our engines to help store some energy....
