Well no power steering is not bad when you are moving but it sucks when parking and moving slow.. I say do it... I want to sooner or L8TR. Let me know how it is...

Is your car strictly strip? If not, keep the power steering. It isnt that it is all that hard to turn, when you are going it is easy, it is more of a control issue for me...When getting squirrly in my old 89 without power steering, it was hard to correct the steering.

So my vote is dont delete the p/s if you drive a decent amount on the street.

You won't gain any horsepower but you will save some weight. Power steering only uses horsepower when the pump is working which is when the wheel is turning. With a manual rack turning won't be bad at all. Now a power rack with no pump is a different story. I've done that in the past and it really makes it a complicated procedure to park.

Like Darrell said its 2 different animals when comparing a power steering unit that dont work or is disconnected as compared to an actual manual rack.. A power rack is a hydraulic unit designed to push fluid to turn. If there is no fluid it prob is twice as hard if not more to turn than a actual manual rack...

I have been considering getting rid of the power steering too... I was looking at a flaming river manual rack, they seem to go for $175 on eBay. Does anyone know if there are other parts required for the conversion (other than shorter belt)?

a manual steering shaft and tie rod ends. I was doing a little research on
a man. rack and they suggested the steering shaft for better steering feel.
and as for the tie rods are a different length than a power rack

Do you have any idea what it would need for tie rod ends? None of the racks I have seen come with them and do not reference which ones to get... My power steering rack is messed up, so I am thinking about just replacing it with a manual rack.
