Underdrive Pulleys

I've got an '89 GT and I was wondering if anyone can give me a suggestion for a set of underdrive pullies. I want a little horsepower gain (10-20) but It will still have to be able to drive on a daily baisis. I see there are alot of different brands out there: BBK, summit, trickflow, JET... the list goes on... I really don't care if they look pretty, i see some come in billit aluminum, I was just wondering what I can get the most bang for my buck out of...

thanks,
Mike

I got some BBK's on my '91. Its a DD w/ a 306. Runs fine.

FYI: If you have plans for a supercharger down the road, keep the stock pullys. The different diameters plays hell w/ 'em...

BBK worked for me. However I recommend keeping the stock alternator pulley in use do to charging difficulties. Anyone else found this to be true?

only thing i had problems with was when my car sat for months period of time over the winter (3 months) other then that I haven't had any problems at all. Is your belt slipping by chance?

Edit: the only reason my battery would die, was because there was a draw from my stereo.

Has anyone here tried March pullies? I found them to be moderately priced and they claim a 12.5 to 15 HP gain. can anyone deem this true?

Like most upgrades, they will work better in conjuction w/ other mods... Besides a S/C. Like Tony, I have never had a charging problem w/ them.

I noticed a torque gain...Seemed like i could spin the tires a bit better. Remember i have a stock aod. I got mine for a GREAT deal at a swap meet. Almost free and they were new! I would say that if your car is stock, go for gears instead...I like my pullies, but gears will get you off the line and IS by far the best bang for the buck.

So, I already have 3.73 gears in the rear end. Will underdrive pulleys make even more power?

95wip: I think he was under the assumption that, like most, there is a choice to be made. If thats the case, gears will show the most improvement.

fastford3388: Yes, you will feel a differance, I have 3.73's and the pulleys.

No prob bro. Sucks don't it? Like havin a super hot date, but no car to get there in... Or worse, borrowing your dads Camaro.... lol

Yeah, the pulleys are a good addition, but if belted boost in your future, save the stockers. And the factory length belt.

Right.
The pulleys should come with a shorter belt.

It will have an Alpha/Numeric code on it. Thats got the size hiddin in it. Its a good idea to write that sequence down and keep it in your car. Auto parts stores can't look up custom belt lenghts. If something happens to to new one, or when its time to replace it, you'll have all the info you need.

The dude behind the counter will thank you. Or, at least, I did when someone came in with that sorta thing.
